You don't want to learn Russian, honey. Believe me, I have tried :D

When you learn Russian you have to start from scratch. They have a different alphabet - you LITERALLY have to learn how to write again!!
Haha so you tried but it didnt work! it would take a lot of time, but russian really intrigues me. Maybe when I have more time I'll try it. At least the russian characters are kinda known, not like chinese/japanese alphabet that is even hard to write with a pencil!

That's true, the Russians have at least a normal alphabet.

But after a couple of weeks, all I could say was "da" (yes), "njet" (no) and "dasvedanje" (goodbye) so I gave it a rest :D

Russian's tough but you can still learn it
my friend who's American and didn't speak anything but english all his life started going out with a russian girl like 2.5 years ago and he's always around russians ... right now he speaks pretty good russian for someone who never took classes and she doesn't help him much either.
so if you really really wanna i'm sure you can do it !
i'd love to learn German and Chinese but it's such a pain in the ass to learn a new language ! Plus i'm not done with English yet lol gotta work on my vocab first.

I know nothing about german. NOTHING. I just read that thread and the only word I understood was "fussball", lol. All I know is "ich liebe dich" and "danke"
I know the feeling. I'm using Babel fish as a crutch to help me in there, and I spent six years studying it!

As Erik pointed out in there, they have about 32 words for "the"

der die das
dem der dem
des die des...

Oh yes of course! See, Russian doesn't work for me

What do I care anyway - every Russian wants to learn English and German now that the iron curtain has come down so I'm good :D

I can write them with anything.:D

But I think it's really difficult to master a foreign language if you don't have the environment to use it. I've tried learning French and Japanese (Only lasted a pretty short period) but since i don't have the chance to actually use the languages it's amazing how fast you forget EVERYTHING.

I also learned Mandarin( only intermediate level) but In Hong Kong I do have chances to use it so basically i can communicate with Madarin speaking people.

I do sign language too and it really takes a lot of practising and you have to use it all the time or your fingers will go stiff. :D

Gray, I'm with you with this Italian business. At least we have a really good motivation to start with!! :thumb:

Polish is one of the most complicated European languages, I've been told.

What about some words in german? they're unbelievable long!!!
If you want long words, try Dutch. For example:

Schizophrenia

=

Meervoudigpersoonlijkheidssyndroom

We don't, we speak really fast. Faster than Italians :) (although you wouldn't hear it because we have such a different language)

Yes, but they are just lots of small words put together.

Zugstationplattform = Zug (Train) + Station (station) + Plattform (platform).

Quite simple in some respects.
