nah fliakis, we all want her back
In I can't recall how many years now, she's the only person on this site to have stayed on my ignore list for longer than a few days. In fact, she's still on it. I don't want her back. :p

greg, i've asked that before but you didnt answer. you said you're of lithuanian descent. can you share your story?
I probably don't follow up to read the same threads often enough. :lazy:

Sure. My dad's parents were both born in Vilnius in the early 1900s (the generations are long in my family... people generally don't have kids until they're about 40, which was how old my dad was when I was born). Lived there a while and moved to the near west side of Chicago back in the 1920s.

My mother's parents were both born in Chicago and ultimately lived in the center of the Lithuanian part of town (around 69th Place and California). But one of her grandmothers that I knew well was born and lived in Klaipeda and moved to the U.S. (Chicago) at age 13 in 1906. Like many in my family, she settled in Chicago to link up with other Lithunian expats she knew, got married, etc.

I grew up not going to the Lithuanian schools in Chicago like some people I knew (they got into all the folk dancing and stuff). But one set of grandparents, my parents, and even a brother got married at the Lithuanian church in town near where my mom grew up:

I have friends that went back in 1991 and participated in the Lithuanian world games held there. I have yet to go, but it's definitely on my list...

i remember when lac made me a black/white flashing avatar you said you're putting on it.
Oh God yes. Man, that was headache-inducing. 'Twas nothing personal though!

Only the swear words I've learned from a couple of grandmothers. Though a lot of friends in the neighborhood where I grew up took language classes at Lithuanian school, etc. I have vivid memories of playing outside as a little kid, hearing friends' mothers call out, and friends yelling back, "Ka?!"

The language is one thing I wish I knew more about. My appreciation for languages has really only come after all my college schooling has been said and done...but it's never too late.

Oh yes it is. Adults are much worse at picking up new sounds than children - it's why even very fluent speakers who spend a lot of time in a country generally have an accent.

I didn't even realize we have an ignore list.

Might be useful sometimes
Go to profile > edit ignore list. There's probably a far more convenient button, but I can't be bothered backing out of this reply screen to find it... :lazy:

... that trend has been in place since the Big Bang!
There was a slight delay afterwards, while stars, planets and message boards evolved, but yeah.
