Man Utd Say Liverpool Can Have Heinze For £6m

Argentina's Copa America finalist Gabriel Heinze will be allowed toeave Manchester United for Liverpool this summer - provided the Merseysiders meet United's asking price of £6 million.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told Sky Sports earlier this week: "Gaby's agent has advised us that he wants to move on.

“I am not too sure about that and we do not have a concrete offer from any particular club. But there is some momentum regarding the player's next move in terms of through his agent, even if nothing is close at this moment in time.”

Liverpool have expressed a definite interest, although manager Rafael Benitez, aware that no player has moved directly between the bitter rivals since 1964, when Phil Chisnall left Old Trafford for a brief, ill-starred spell at Anfield, has been concerned that United might block such an emotive transfer.

However, The Sun reports that Heinze has been told by United chiefs that he can join any club he wishes - as long as they come up with the required fee.

Ferguson has already spent £50 million on new talent this summer, and plans to splash out almost half as much again to bring Heinze's compatriot Carlos Tevez to Old Trafford.

The manager will be expected to recoup some of that outlay, and selling Heinze would help, after Kieran Richardson's move to Sunderland yesterday brought some £5.5 million back into the Old Trafford coffers.

Heinze Will Not Sign For Liverpool, Says Fergie

Sir Alex Ferguson has emphatically insisted that Gabriel Heinze will not be sold to Liverpool.

The Argentine international seems set to leave Old Trafford, but his next destination will not be Anfield after United rejected a £6m bid from Rafael Benitez this week, even though that figure meets the clubs valuation.

The two clubs are bitter rivals and Ferguson is not entertaining the idea of becoming the first manager to sanction a move to Liverpool for the first time in 45 years.

"I can assure you, Liverpool will not be getting Gabriel Heinze," Ferguson told PA Sport.

"We can put that to bed right now and we have done so. We have had a couple offers for him and we have turned them down."

Many clubs from across Europe have also been linked with the 29-year-old, including Spanish champions Real Madrid, but it is unclear if anyone else has made an offer.

Ferguson is not convinced that the left-back is determined to leave the club, but if he was to stay he'd be competing with Patrice Evra for a place in the starting line-up.

"Heinze's agents are rolling the ball all the time," said Ferguson.

"But no matter what his agent thinks, we are in the driving seat.

"I don't exactly know what Gaby thinks because it is all coming from his agent but this has been going on for a year and a half now."

Sir Alex Ferguson isn't that stupid to strengthen one of their main rivals , that's why he blocked the transfer previously.

Senderos is better than Boumsong and Legrottaglie plus he's still young so I wouldn't complain if we got him. There are better options out there but he wouldn't be a terrible signing.

Man Utd-Liverpool Relations Strained Over Heinze

The controversy over Liverpool's wish to sign Manchester United's Gabriel Heinze is threatening to get nasty. Indeed, comments from United boss Sir Alex Ferguson immediately after his team's 6-0 stroll against Shenzhen suggest that the temperature of relations between the two north-west rivals has plunged several degrees below freezing.

Ferguson confirmed that United are investigating the possibility that Liverpool made an illegal approach for the Argentine defender.

The Red Devils are refusing point blank to do business with the Merseyside Reds - despite the fact that Rafael Benitez has matched United's £6.8 million asking price for the 29-year-old Albiceleste star.

Heinze's agent claims to have a letter that effectively gives his client permission to leave Old Trafford.

But United chief executive David Gill does not believe that it overrides the player's contract, on which two years are still to run.

Gill also insists that he told Heinze's agent United would not be prepared to do business with any of their main Premier League rivals - specifically Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

As for the player himself, Heinze is said to be considering mounting a legal challenge against Gill's position - although United's stance reinforces Ferguson's previously stated assertion that Heinze had no chance of joining Liverpool.

That position has clearly hardened over the past couple of days, with Ferguson insisting:

"Gabriel Heinze will not be joining Liverpool."

"We are examining some of the statements coming from his agent and when contact was first made with Liverpool.

"We are not happy with the agent's conduct in the matter and we are examining that as well, but it will take a couple of days before we have anything more to say."

Just before Ferguson spoke on the matter, Benitez confirmed that he wanted to make Heinze the first player to leave United for Anfield since Phil Chisnall in 1964.

"We made the offer and they rejected it. Now the lawyers are working on it," said Benitez.

"We have to wait. We are still trying to push the deal through because he is a good player and a player we like."

5 Million Pounds for Heinze... you can't get much better than that. Especially when players such as Barzagli and Meira are going for over 10.
