Were you serious with that post DelPieroForLife?
Lion, not saying we should get him, go ahead, I would love it. But just dont expect that much and hype him as he was in the last page (Serie A's best player?). Take him over Diego and VDV? Thats a bizzare joke. What has he proven? He is a good young talent who plays in a small team and is playing his first half season of Serie A and doing it well (but lets have some perspective while evaluating him).
If you want to sign him, do so, but not as our crunch player to lay all our hopes on when we can buy better and more established players, thats just too unnecessary of a gamble. Like Diego, who we know what we will get NOW. You said it best, its better to buy him(or a talent now in general) now then when he has acheived his potential. But the thing is, we cant afford waiting for someone to acheive their potential, but need people who have done so already. Because it was being advocated that we sign him over ESTABLISHED players, while Hamsik isnt one. Its all ok signing him, aslong as we dont have to rely on him completely.
He isnt any better then Montolivo for example, and I would love to have a talent like that too, but thats all he is for now, a talent. Not really broken through or shown he is a top player. If we have the luxury to have wait until they acheive their potential, we need to have established stars like Diego to carry us while we wait for the youngins to turn good. You mentionned those top teams (and btw Man U's benched big talents, they bought them for 45m for Anderson and Nani alone...), well you know why they have the luxury to break in their talents slowly/bench them? They have established stars NOW that carry them, they dont need to rely on their raw talents. They have the Rooneys, Giggs, CR's,Tevez or the Messi's,Ronnies, Eto'Os, Henry's and so and on for the other teams. You get me? We need to sign those core big players to bring the substantial impact we need NOW because we dont have them at all, instead of having the luxury to sign talents we have to wait until they turn into big players , they cant carry that load, those top players are needed to carry the heavy load(unneccessary big gamble you cant afford if you dont have impact players, if they are thrown in to just start, they are pressured to be great now instead of later, case in point Criscito...).
Meaning in short, having Hamsik would be fine...aslong as we dont have to rely on him and already have great players like Diego or top top player in general who does the bussiness for us now, and in which the young talents can play alongside. Generally they are teams who are lucky enough to re-juvenate their team and slowly break in their future stars/talents WHILE having their current great generation/top players, we dont, we havent rejuvenated our team yet at all, couple old stars and couple few current ones, is not the making of a top team. But one is in a mid-life crisis so to speak.
