The occasional 5K run does wonders for the heart however. IMO it even compliments lifting. I also recover faster when I run.

All that being said though, there is no reason to run around every single day. And you're right, squats are so taxing that they do replace some of the benefits of cardio too. I'm not sure what your opinion on this is, but I think being able to run is also simply a sign of being healthy.
I agree, you want your heart and lungs to be exercised as well, yes the squats do help substituting cardio, but i just feel like i know my whole body is improving when i see that i can run faster after each week and dont get tired and leg soreness as the time goes, which is my main aim. It really shows, especially when i play the weekly futsal/football.

That is literally the only reason I make room for it a couple of times a week, I feel like I should be able to do 10K and have stamina without any problems. Having said that even when I was a 10 stone teenager I was never any good at distances.
That's what i thought initially, but distance running is really great, start with 5K, and then 10K, i just did my first 21K, and i can't believe i actually finished, with a pretty good time, below target. Most important is to have a bit of training, no need for intense training, just a couple of 2-3KM run like twice a week on the treadmill and you should be fine with 10K, I think stamina wise, as long as you dont smoke too much, and trained enough, it would be fine, the part that i still have a bit of a hard time overcoming is the soreness on the legs (quads, calf).
definitely should try running distance, its awesome!
