Having your effort saved by Buffon and coming close to scoring are not the same, you guys on here of all people should know that :)
They played a brave game. I love USA football national team because they never sit back even when they are obviously inferior to their opponent. Against Italy, they played a wonderful second half even though they were down to 9 men and they had quite a few chances to score.

I remember they put in a good effort even though they were down to 9, but IIRC Italy were never in an real danger of losing the game. But yeah, that was 4 years ago, maybe this should be more about this WC...

DeMerit said he wasn't going to do that. He was going to concentrate on keeping Rooney from scoring, but if that caused him to swear at referees, then that's fine too.

I'd take that. There was also talk of Milner starting in a holding role. In some ways I'd rather see Carrick.

Whatever the case, shutting down the middle of the park will be the key for us. I think we can do it, much like we did against Spain last summer. We also need to be really quick on the counter by not dallying on the ball for too long once we win possession in the middle of our own half. That's why Torres should play, as he can turn and hit a long pass with quickness and accuracy.

Of course, we also need to finish the few chances we will get.

We can do this. But everyone will need to be on their game.
