It certainly won't be easy. Much of it depends on whether our best players show up to play. In 2006, Donovan and a couple others did jack diddley, and that's why we did so poorly.

We still outplayed Italy though, which was all we could take from the tournament.
You played against 10 men (and rightly so by the way) and never came close to scoring, in fact Italy had more chances than you had. You have a very strange definition of outplaying a team. The USA had a very decent game against Italy, no doubt, but they got what they deserved.

A draw? One could say that.

But there's no doubt Italy received ref help. The Eddie Pope sending off was pretty absurd, and 9 against 10 men was the only reason why they got more chances.

I would say overall, we outplayed the Italians.

But even if you did, it doesn't matter, Andy. IMO it's what divides the big teams from the smaller ones: the ability to capitalise when you have the upper hand. You never looked like you could win that game.

Though I do think the USA would stand a very good chance against Italy right now. The Italians often have difficulties with teams that run on enthusiasm. In normal circumstances the Italians would pull it off, because they are a much classier side, but this Italy is the weakest in ages.

Meh, you didn't win. We're obviously not agreeing over this (which is fine), but the point is you didn't win, so I wouldn't gloat about the performance.
