This goal to me goes down as one of the most underrated ever, despite being in a dark period of his career he managed to pull that off against Koulibaly that was regarded as one of the best CB’s in the game at the time but he skinned him like it was nobody, one of my all time favorite goals, it was an absolutely world class moment from Higuain.

Always surprised by how much power he could generate on his shots with very little backlift.

Because we paid 90 mil for him and he had just one good season with us.
It's also because he didn't deliver what AA bought him for: a champions league.

At that time AA was really vocal about the CL as the goal of the club. The common view was that we had all we needed except a top CF. He was the only one we thought we could persuade and when we paid Napoli's huge release clause it was funny as fuck because it showed the huge gap we had on the rest of calcio but it also put a lot of pressure on Higgers and showed how obsessed we were with the big ears. Meanwhile there were doubts over his scoring record in the Champions League post-group stage.

We had perhaps Europe's best team that year and Higuain was undoubtedly one of the world's best CFs. He even scored important goals in the knockout stages, notably against Monaco in the semi. But what happened happened in the final. We spent all that money on our missing piece and missed the trophy. It remained an obsession and then it was Ronaldo and the end of an era.

I really think that was part of it. He was the CF we needed and it didn't result in a Champions.

the best pure scorer since trez imo

Someone like him was sorely needed during that era

also the flex of power and dominance shown by Jj to simply cut the cheque for a top player from a rival is legendary. Classic Juventus vibes really. @Firestarter
He really was the guy we needed. A top finisher. We were all concerned that we'd wasted the money we spent on Mario as I recall and then out of nowhere Mario proved himself not only capable out wide but crucial out there to the formation we played.

We laughed so hard the day we spent all that money on him, lemme find some posts on the thread

In fact just the first few pages are gold. Such celebration and optimism.
