Uefa Unveil European Footballer Of The Year Short-List
From a sheer statistical standpoint Italy have the best chance of having one of its own voted as European Footballer of the Year for 2003 as nearly a fifth of the 50 nominees are Italian. Real Madrid are the best represented club with eight of its mega-stars -last season's Golden Ball winner Ronaldo one of them- featuring on the short list. It is the Serie A that can claim to have the most star-studded league, however, as it boasts 15 canDidates for the prestious award, which is just one more than La Liga. Juventus' Czech diamond Pavel Nedved is believed to be the front-runner for the dizzying distinction as the best footballer in Europe.
