Over the last 9 seasons (94/95 - 02/03) against our 4 main rivals (Milan,Inter,Roma,Lazio) Juve have scored 94 goals in 72 matches in Serie A... having 27 different scorers plus 3 own goals in our favour.

Goals Scored over 9 seasons against our 4 rivals :

18 - Del Piero
09 - Inzaghi
07 - Zidane
05 - Conte, Vieri, Padovano
04 - Amoruso, Tudor, Trezeguet
03 - Ravanelli, Jugovic, Kovacevic, Nedved, Vialli
02 - Davids, Henry
01 - Baggio, Marocchi, Grabbi, Lombardo, Deschamps, Fonseca, Iuliano, Tachinardi, DiVaio, Thuram,Camoranesi

Goals Scored over 9 Seasons against Lazio :

5 - Del Piero
3 - Padovano
2 - Amoruso, Henry
1 - Marocchi, Grabbi, Deschamps, Conte, Vieri, Inzaghi, Tudor, Trezeguet, Nedved

Goals Scored over 9 Seasons against Inter :

4 - Del Piero
2 - Zidane, Inzaghi, Kovacevic, Trezeguet
1 - Vialli, Lombardo, Conte, Jugovic, Tachinardi, Tudor, Nedved, Camoranesi

Goals Scored over 9 Seasons against Roma :

5 - Del Piero
3 - Zidane
2 - Ravanelli, Padovano, Vieri, Davids
1 - Vialli, Amoruso, Iuliano, Inzaghi, Nedved

Goals Scored over 9 Seasons against Milan :

5 - Inzaghi
4 - Del Piero
3 - Conte
2 - Jugovic, Zidane, Vieri, Tudor
1 - Baggio, Ravanelli, Vialli, Amoruso, Fonseca, Kovacevic, Trezeguet, DiVaio, Thuram

Over the 9 Seasons we can see that Del Piero, Inzaghi and Zidane have been our most prolific players.
As well as being ahead on goals scored Del Piero is also miles ahead on assists against our main rivals.
(once I get my new opta password and time I will add the assist figures)

Now I hear you say... But only Del Piero was here all that time... Yes thats true though his early years he was not a starter and he has missed plenty through injury... But having said that I will break it down into 3 smaller chunks (3 Seasons each)... The early years, The Inzaghi Years and the trezeguet years.

The Early Years - 94/95 - 96/97 :

5 - Vieri, Padovano
3 - Ravanelli, Vialli, Del Piero, Jugovic, Amoruso, Conte
2 - Zidane
1 - Baggio, Marocchi, Grabbi, Deschamps, Lombardo

The Inzaghi Years - 97/98 - 99/00 :

7 - Del Piero, Inzaghi
3 - Kovacevic
2 - Zidane, Davids, Henry
1 - Amoruso, Conte, Iuliano, Fonseca

Del Piero equal top scorer, leading Assister and nigh on a year out with injury

The Trezeguet Years - 00/01 - 02/03

8 - Del Piero
5 - Trezeguet
3 - Zidane, Tudor, Nedved
2 - Inzaghi
1 - DiVaio, Thuram, Camoranesi, Conte, Tachinardi

Del Piero Leading scorer and leading assister

A Quick look at the last campaign - 02/03 (also included above)

4 - Del Piero
3 - Nedved
1 - Camoranesi, DiVaio, Thuram, Tudor

Del Piero leading scorer, leading assister and several weeks out injured.

So over the last 9 seasons Del Piero has been our highest scorer and assister against the big teams in Serie A.
Over the last 6 Seasons Del Piero has been the top scorer and assister against our main rivals
The same over the last 3 seasons and even over the last complete season.

And all as a support forward not a striker and with many injuries.

As a support striker his job is to score goals and create others... both of which he has done over and above any other player.

How many players can bost an equal record as a support striker and especially in italy against the best teams?

I keep reading how Del Piero doesnt perform against the big teams , but who for juve has done better?
His job is too score and create, he has done all these things.

Also bear in mind he is one of the most heavily marked men in italy (the most in juve) one of the most fouled players... yet he still does his job,
People also forget that in games where hes heavily marked and seeming to do little he is keeping people busy and creating freedom for his unmarked team mates

Anyway only a few stats, but interesting anyway, and many other things can be seen as well... why has our main striker not been more prolific than his support? Inzaghi was more prolific against the big boys than trez who pushed him out etc etc

Comments?

Thanks for the hard work Paul, very interesting stats. I'm more surprised at Zidane's scoring rate than Del Piero's.

Nice figure .. good job, BUT i'll only be satisfied if you show me:

How many of those goals (in big games) have been PKs?

If they are more than 50% of his goals in big games, then your theory is wack. (you can't compare all players if DP has the advantege of shooting the PKs) If not, then i'll fully agree.

that's not much. besides, it's trez who takes penalties when del piero is out. sometimes he can blame only himself for scoring fewer goals.

    not really.even if you halve his 18 you'd still have 9 - a tie for 1st.

and besides, not everyone can score pks in high pressure situations.

    + penalties
    + decisive goals, that were either equalizers or brought us the win; now I know this is very subjective so beware because who knows how important his goal was if it was scored 1st and later followed by other goals from his teammates;

P.S. You also have to consider that he didn't play in all those games. I couldn't find the line-ups for each game.
