Who cares about Wayne Rooney.

Iniesta is good, but he shouldn't be in the shortlist. If he's only in there because of the goal against Holland, then this award is a load of crap.
I'd put him in the shortlist not for the goal but for the work rate he does every match, Xavi does the passing but there is a lot of work that Iniesta does that makes Xavi's job easier.

Who mentioned Wayne Rooney? :howler:

Nor in the Champiosn League.

I would put Xavi, Iniesta, Sneijder.
Exactly. Messi is supposed to be some sort of God of football who did shit against Inter when his team actually needed it. Not against Xerez when Barça are winning 5-0 already.

Xavi and Sneijder are my top 2, then I'm tempted to include Maicon to be honest.

Why did France Football give the award to FIFA anyway?
Money.

Otherwise, I see no reason to let such an award lose respect like this.

anyone remember how nedved won european player of the year, yet he somehow missed out in being short listed in the top 3 for 2003 season XD
I think they didn't have a short list of 3 back then. Nedved ended 4th in FIFA that year (with 158 points), behind Zidane (264 pts), Henry (186) and Ronaldo (176).

But FIFA always has favorite players which are favored like mad by them. Zidane, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka were the FIFA pets and now it's Messi. Even when they had average seasons they were included in the 10 men shortlists. Kaka made it last year if you remember.
No doubt that all the above were great players, but they were all blatantly favored by FIFA.

Imo it should've been in this order:

1.Sneijder
2.Xavi
3.Forlan/Robben

Tie for first between Sneijder and Xavi. I'm not taking under consideration Xavi's previous seasons, it's the 2010 Ballon D'or, not who's had a better career so far.

nah they did, I remember being so mad when I found out the final 3 were zidane, ronaldo and henry. after the top 3 the remaining got a seperate voting system.

I wouldnt swipe ronaldinho tho, in 2006 he was clearly the best player in the world, coming home after a champions league medal, yet cannavaro won it for playing well in one month

Xavi
Messi
Sneider/Ronaldo

Sneider hasn't been anything special after the world cup(he has Rafa to blame for that), so he loses some points here. Xavi was fantastic for Barca and he was fantastic in the world cup, so that makes him better than Messi who wasn't all that special in the world cup. Still Messi scored 12 goals in the CL in the year of 2010, he scored more league goals than anyone else, while at the same time creating so many goals as well. Club wise he is the best player in the world, but he wasn't that special in the WC and that ruins it for him. Still i don't think he was bad in the World cup, he was Argentina's main creative force and created most of their goals. But he choked it out against Germany and Inter, that loses him a lot of points imo.

You're missing a J there mate.

If we're talking overall performances over one year, Xavi should win it without a doubt. I think Messi will win it this year, but he didn't do anything special last year.
However, I think Sneijder deserves it even he plays for Inter merda.

He was arguably the most influential player in the Champions League and he had a fantastic world cup. A great few months for him at the beginning of the year towards the summer. It wouldn't be fair to hold his recent performances against him since it has a lot with his team playing like shit more than anything else.
