Yeah well I didn't mean that Zaza is a bad player or that he isn't worth 18 million. He probably is worth that much. I'm just saying that if it was so imperative that we got that AM this summer, we should've prioritized differently. The money we spent on Zaza could've gone into landing a top AM (18 million + the reported / assumed 25-30 mill that we currently have left would probably be enough to land us a Draxler or a Mikhtaryawhatevs).
And as you said, we also bought Mandzukic. So Zaza wasn't really needed. Not as much as a trequartista, anyway.

Honestly, at this point, if Draxler is not possible, just stay put and let's roll.
We've already spent more than 50M on transfers, it's a lot. Mistakes were made, good transfers too.
With the current squad, we have 2 very wildcards: Asamoah and Khedira. I won't count on neither of them.

Conclusion is the squad is unbalanced, unless we can count on Asamoah and Khedira (as far as we know, we can't).
Defense and attack great depth, midfield very poor depth.
Starting team much inferior to last season's starting team.
Chemistry yet to be seen - there could be issues on the offensive front.

Honestly. We made some great signings. Dybala, Mandzukic, Sandro. And some half-decent ones in Khedira, Cuadrado, Neto.
These weren't the problem. The problem is how we dealt with other clubs wanting our players. We knew Tevez and Pirlo would leave, basically for free, but also freeing up their wages for other earners in the club. This is fine, losing Tevez especially hurts, but it was inevitable, and we did everything we could to keep him.
Vidal being sold almost out of nowhere, at a bargain price, is alright too, as Beppe kept saying we were going to sign a top CAM, or a very versatile Midfield player (who could take over Vidal's role as our CAM, but also play B2B in other formations, etc). Sucks to lose Vidal, but everything pointed to a replacement being signed.
Then, these last two weeks and all of a sudden we're giving Llorente for free, and Beppe is suggesting no CAMs are available that are Juventus quality, but money is not the issue, we would spend whatever amount on the right player. And to top it off he says "individual players are not decisive", as though in some way trying to soften the blow of failing to land our targets.
We may well play a 3-5-2, 4-3-1-2, 4-3-3, whatever else this year, and we might even succeed, but the amount of if's he has created with his failure in this mercato, and the pressure he's heaped on Allegri by almost forcing him to change formation from the one that got us to a CL final, it's quite frankly ridiculous. Not signing a CAM after everything that went on this summer is a massive failure on his part.
I'll still play the wait and see how the season goes, but if things go south this year, the summer mercato has been a colossal fuck-up on Beppe's part.

Maybe, but we need Zaza now, if the plan all along was to sell Llorente (as we all believed it was). We need at least four real forwards.

That's how I understood it, and he seems to be referring to the stupid money being thrown around elsewhere. Basically teams are asking for more than we want to pay, even for players who aren't much of an upgrade or at all.

This is what i said earlier... why we prioritized Zaza over a cAM after we bought Dybala?. This was the fuck up of the year for Marotta. He should have punced right after selling Vidal..and without buying ZAZA. That mercato would have been excellent. We would just have needed to sort out Asa and Khedira...but this was way easier that we are facing now withot an AM that allegri requested aeons ago.
Lets hope allegri doesnt get mad at this. He surely can sort it out.
I agree that what is fuking us up is the unreliability of Asamoah and <khedira. That must be very worrying because we are 2 player less, and we cant count on them not getting injured.

I'm worried, I'm not seeing the red line this summer by Beppe. He's all over the place. Not only with the signings but also with the departures. He has sold some very important players on the pitch and some good chemistry guys off it as well (Pepe, Llorente, Storari).
Alex Sandro is the only improvement, the rest are are downgrades.
