I disagree with anyone who criticises Marotta's work this season, but that said, I don't think the intention with which we went about the last mercato, we could say that it was a mercato to get us this far in Europe. It's more a culmination of the work over the last couple of years that is bearing fruit now, with those players getting accustomed to a certain level of play and experience in Europe, and the right kind of formation thats helping them express a certain style of football. And i would go as far as saying that we got lucky on Perreyra and Morata clicking so beautifully in Europe. I for one, did not imagine they would establish themselves as rapidly and fluidly as they have. I doubt Marrotta or Allegri did either.

There was good and bad. I loved the Pogba and Morata signings from day one. But I think the success of the team overall was the belief instilled by Conte these past years. Sure, he got the tactics wrong, but Allegri couldn't have built us from the ground up like Antonio. People here will hate Conte but they have no idea how football works, probably because they are new fans. Ask Sergio about this, he has been a fan for like 30 years and I love his perspective.

Marotta has been exceptional with his signings. Barzagli, Vidal, Lichtsteiner, Pirlo, Asamoah, Pogba, Tevez, Evra, Morata... 7 of our 11 starters weren't here when he arrived. And if you place Barza in place of Chiellini or Bonucci in a back 4, like a healthy and fit Barza would be, it's 8 of 11. He's built a CL final squad in 5 years, from consecutive 7th place finishing squads.

Conte deserves a lot of credit, of course. He was fantastic for instituting a winning mentality, at the very least in Serie A, a dominating mentality, and a relentless drive to succeed. Allegri came in and took the insanely high pressure edge of this mentality, which was necessary for Europe. Our team was too high strung in Europe under Conte, too much pressure, and they made a ridiculous number of mental errors, and couldn't finish chances at all. Allegri calmed their play down, and relieved the pressure quite a bit.

But the men behind it all are Marotta and Paratici. They have completely revolutionized our starting XI gradually over the last 4 summer mercatos, and turned a side devoid of quality into a CL final squad, with the quality to play multiple formations. They have also shown their worth in the ownership of the most promising young Italian talent in Italy with Berardi and Rugani. Not to mention having basically all the promising young attacking talent around on our books and making a profit on their sales. Immobile, Gabbia, Zaza..

:agree: it's a shame people don't give Conte enough credit, the man transformed this team totally.

Nah, he got plenty of credit and praise from the fans.

It's a shame plenty of people don't give Marotta/Paratici credit for the work they've done.
This. It's pretty much retarded when people say Conte turned a 7th place team into scudetto winners.

That first season alone, Barzagli, Pirlo, Vidal, Lichtsteiner, Vucinic, Matri were all brought in for him. 6 starters. He was given an almost entirely different team to shape into that scudetto. Credit where it's due, he shaped the team perfectly to win Serie A. But he clearly did not turn the same group of players that finished 7th into scudetto winners.

lol conte, what a great football mind. couldn't see the potential in this team and thought it was impossible to do anything against europe's greats. I will always remember him for his pussy tactics and how mentally he had always lost before stepping onto the field.

It's right to give Conte credit for the first year. Maybe the first two. But after that it's very, very possible that he did not do enough with the squad Marotta gave him.

When you look at our individual talent it's shocking to think we didn't get out of the group last year.

A mistake that shouldn't have been forgiven, any other club would have sacked the coach for it, thankfully Conte hanged from the rope himself.

Nothing disgusts me more than Juventus fans making fun of Conte.
