What I am struggling with is whether or not the starting XI is really the problem.

Unless there is a change in formation, where could they possibly hope to get a starter to improve themselves? the only place that I can see it, potentially, is LWB.

Granted, Asamoah has been improving year over year at that position, but his true calling is, and should always be as a CM.

So who else needs replacing, when healthy?

Bonucci is the obvious target, but the problem at hand is that they don't really have that type of CB that can function in the middle of a 3 man defense besides him. OF course, it could be said that he really doesn't do it either, but that is another story for another time, although this could be why the search for another defender.

I don't really see anything that would lead me to believe that there is going to be a change in formation.

To me, the acquisition of Evra basically serves as cover for Asamoah when Kwadwo goes to the African Nations Cup this year. This club barely got by when he came back the last time and was exhausted.

Morata is a promising young CF, and buyback aside, shouldn't be a barometer of the talent that he posseses.

Romulo is not a sexy choice at all, but at least you can say that he is certainly better than Isla or Padion, and kills 2 birds with one stone for CM and RWB depth. And no , I'm not enamored with Caceres as a RWB, I think he serves the club a greater purpose in a 4 man back line.

Peryera. If I had any indication what formation they would be playing, then I would have a better idea as to what to make of it

Coman- To me, this is the most exciting prospect of the bunch. He wouldn't leave a team like PSG unless he and Juve knew that he would be first team material, and get to paly. How they utilize his speed is something that the coaches get paid the big money for, not me.

I think that if you look at the transfers individually, it's not bad. Not earth shattering, but not bad either.

The next acquisition is key as to where this club is going in regards to formation.

If they get an AM such as a Pastore or the like, then some of these prior acquisitions make more sense, with the probable need to move to a 4 man defense, with evra and Licht moving to LB and Rb, respectively, and Chiellini and Bonucci, for now being the 2 CB's until Barzagli returns, with Ogbonna being a sub in a more comfortable 4 man backline for him.

Peryera would make sense as well, with being a CM and AM backup when the situation calls for it.

As much as I would have loved Iturbe to come here, it would have ended up requiring the team to spend more money to partner him with a LW to switch to a 4-3-3.

I guess what I'm saying is I can't really give a grade at this point, with a month still left in the transfer season, but I really would like to see an AM come on board, even if they don't totally commit to using a formation that would suit him, if only for the versatility and the options that it would give Allegri if the 3-5-2 isn't working.

I'm not jumping for joy at this campaign so far aside from Coman and Morata (again, just on talent and age alone), nor do I have my pitchfork at the ready to storm the castle.

This Summer has been a wash since Conte left. Then it's just self destructed into mediocrity.... We all know Marotta won't sign a star studded player to improve our starting 11 or enable us to change formation.

For this fact, I propose a jump out of the window.

- - - Updated - - -

Let's grade it.

Morata - Garbage - 1/10, he's shown no more than Zaza, Gabbiadini or Immobile yet cost us 20 million.

Romulo - Ok - 5/10 - Useful rotation player

Pereya - Ok - 5/10 - Useful rotation player

Coman - Exciting - 7/10 - Prospect

Overall - 3/10

The only plus point is Vidal not leaving, other than that it's been awful.

1/10

Zaza isn't going to be anything more than a decent striker, Gabbiadini really hasn't shown much at this point either, Immobile has shown he suits counter attacking teams and is a bit one dimensional.

Also how does a 1/10, 5/10/, 5/10/, 7/10 equal 3/10 overall?

That was my question. so let's say you have an overall of 7 now, how much will be the total if we fail to buy that player?
I don't really buy into the numbers thing because it doesn't really make sense. I'd also have to see how the team performs.

Maybe he is giving Evra a 0/10?

That would be 15 out of 50, which is a 3/10

Just a thought.

Bonucci needs to be out for 4 man backline, at least CL anyway

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm not particularly excited by the mercato thus far, and I have no reason to be. It has been underwhelming. That is my motherfuckin opinion. My issue is with the people trying so hard to push and convince that this has been a solid mercato. I don't buy it. Again. It is my opinion, and that's just how I fucking feel. No need to persuade me otherwise, and you most definitely aren't going to succeed by forcing it or shoving it down my throat.

My only problem is that we're not bringing in any decent am/winger/ss which we desperately need. If Allegri wants to start with the 352 -fine but what will happen if he decides to go away from it because it won't fetch us planned results? He'll be very restricted then. We're not brining in poor/garbage players; tell you what: I think they're decent/good ones actually but they don't offer possibility of switching from 352 to something else. We need to leave the back door unlocked at least. Allegri has never really used 352 and it should be a good enough argument for that.

The only thing solid about this mercato has been kicking out the trash.

If we're trying to find positives. It's been kicking out Quag, losing Vucinic at this rate looks an awful move as he was miles better than Morata, Giovinco and whatever bargain August 31st signing we try to get.

- - - Updated - - -

Ironically I'll go against the grain and say getting Allegri was a positive. I think he'll do quite well here.

C'mon Beppe ,PSG set a price for Lavezzi at 20 mil.I think that this price is okay and the guy is worth it .Maybe we can lower that demand to 18 mil.PSG is trying to offload players in order to buy Di Maria.Pereyra 15 and Lavezzi 20 mil.Golf versus Porshe for a little bit more.

this is of course your opinion, moreover most people here are arguing the purchase of 2 bench warmers for 35+ mil when 1. supposedly we are broke and 2. we need help with our starting 11.
Why is this so difficult to understand?

Instead of spending 20mil on Morata, 8mil on Romulo, 17 on Pereyra, we could've spend per exemple 30 mil on Griezmann and it would be a much better mercato than this one.
Again, people passing off Morata as chopped liver or certain bench material. He possibly has higher potential than Griezmann.
