I think what Marotta can be criticised for is what happens in direct talks, when you are getting down to the nitty gritty aspect with money. Maybe we've just been blown out of the water so far (definitely the case with Agüero and Van Persie), but you can make a case for what happens in negotiations, up to a point. Could someone else do it better? Maybe. A more convincing argument, more external power. Moggi had that, but now only Galliani has that.

We can't pretend that he allocates money or is in complete control of market strategy, we have several people involved above and around him and a group of shareholders. See Arsenal for a similar situation over the last few years.
Isnt Wegner in control of the market though for Arsenal

He controls what players he signs, but not the money.

There are a lot of similarities here, actually. Throughout this period of the last 3-5 years Arsenal have said 'we can sign X player if we want', much like Juve did, but again and again Arsenal have tried to negotiate deals like how they used to be done, and been gazumped for their top targets.

This summer supposedly they have funds released from various enterprises, payments finished on the stadium, etc. This is what we are also aiming for.

If Arsenal don't spend £25m for at least one player this summer you can assume their CEO is lying, or that Wenger really is a tight bastard.

It is true that Marotta has some excuses, but he has been praised far too much or all the wrong reasons...
In this i have to agree.

He has done a fair job.. wih his pros and cons. His pros has been his obviosly cheap gems he signed in vidal, pirlo and pogba. Lichteiner and Barzagli proved to very nice deals also. Llorente being the cherry on the cake.

He has been disastrous in the likes of Eliah, Martinez , Bender, Borrielo, Anelka and Isla. The melo saga is another issue too. The Giovinco treatment was a mistake also, since we lost some good money for this.

Right he is on the balance. Because of this ill judge him in this mercato. He simply has no more excuses.
He needs to deliver, and i ask for him just ONE signing. Nothing more. He fulfills this and he will take off all this pressure from fans in this forum for along while.

My biggest grind with him is his ability to sell players, it would give us some more leverage on the transfer market if he could actually sell some of our deadwood instead of sending them out on loan. I will be very surprised if Melo and Ziegler actually get sold this summer

It's not easy to sell players on fairly big-big salaries when it's clear we want rid of them, everyone thinks they can get a bargain or knock the fee down to take on the wage demands.

Hard truth sadly.

In any job.... it doesnt matter how good you do...if your boss tells you to fix a certain issue wihin your responsabilities...and you do everything else but to fix that, Youll inevitably be questioned or even fired if your boss is of one of those of short fuse.

Marotta NEEDS to find a prolific scorer this mercato.

He needs to get a significant upgrade for this attack, and as good as Llorente is, he won't be enough. I'm sorry, but he won't.

If they have to break the bank for a striker, then this should be the year to do it. The rest of Serie A is not going to sit idly by and not do anything over the summer, let alone what other teams in the CL are going to attempt to accomplish.

I've been a supporter of this guy from the get go, but he needs to get a really good striker this summer.

All we need now is an ss which will bring us to the next level, having vucinic and gio and one of quag/matri and and llorente would be amazing because we would have 2 improvements and it will be a very good job by Marotta and we will have a very strong team. However the ss should be one of Sanchez/Jovetic/ Tevez. I included Sanchez only cause now Barca have Neymar

I know people will say that of course thats what everyone has been saying however i dont think at all we will get this ss

I just need to know if people realize that the appreciation alone in Arturo Vidal is enough to make up for all the money Marotta "wasted".

If you factor just Vidal and Pogba, the appreciation in those two from our initial investment must be near $60M.

I absolutely cringe when people list his good signings like Vidal, Pogba, Pirlo, Barzagli etc. and then equate them with BENDTNER AND ANELKA who together cost NOTHING. The difference in magnitude between the two sides of the Marotta spectrum is fucking ENORMOUS.

If a team signs just one Vidal over 5 seasons they will gladly take 100 Anelkas. But Marotta has managed to sign a Vidal every season with Pirlo, Pogba, Barzagli, Lichtsteiner. Those are WC players for peanuts.

I mean this is getting insane. Someone says Marotta signed Vidal and the counter argument is that he signed Anelka. I would take 10 or 15 Anelkas if it meant getting ONE Vidal. My god have some perspective.
