But I do agree with what Jack said, there were some issues we've already known about that we could have taken care of. Conte did wonders with the strikers and LB we have last season and this season but you can't expect Conte to get these guys to overachieve all the time.

People surely deserve criticism, but really a bad spell has been coming for some time, it's natural. It could have happened last season, but it all went well for us in terms of nicking a couple of games, staying clear of injuries. We needed everything to go well and it did. We got a bit more out of some players, this year we've not always.

Personally I don't like exaggerating things either way, and it's gotten more ridiculous on here because of how spoiled we have been in terms of results. You get to a scenario where everything is a problem and the answer is to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The difficult spell isn't over, but we'll be approaching our strongest line up soon. We were able to relax in the league for too long with the other teams beating each other up in the CL places. I didn't expect a lot from tonight's game as we were playing a strong opponent away with a fringe team, but I do expect to see more in the next bunch of league games. They all must know that we're approaching an important part of the season.

First he is, to a great extent, why Juve are a strong team fighting in different fronts once again and second, it is inexcusable that he hasn't succeeded in bringing a top forward yet. To say that it was Conte and players who won us the Scudetto and to try justifying Marotta's incompetencey in sealing big deals are both idiotic.

I agree, although I'm not convinced of his absolute power in terms of those high end deals. After Secco there was a very deliberate emphasis on control in the transfer market. All the talk of lowering the wage bill. Then of course Exor have bailed us out to the tune of €150m, so we have not been spending money we have generated.

I don't know where the cut off point is for us to spend those sorts of figures on one player. For now you hear he and Conte say the same things in every transfer window about big deals, we can't afford them, but are working towards being able to.

We did pick up a €25m player for free, so that's a start at least.

Signing a top player is more than paying the 35m+ and done. You need to pay the player himself 7m+ a year just for him to actually consider playing for your team. Its a complicated piece of business and you need to actually get it right.

That too. But I'm assuming that signing this top player means that you won't be signing much else. So you need to get it right.

Let's for example assume that we beat City and signed Dzeko. He would have cost us about 30m to Wolfsburg and 7m a year for 5 year contract to Dzeko. That would get you up to at least 65m in total and that is without all the potential bonuses. 70m for a guy like Dzeko is massive and he's not even close to being a sure thing.

We have spent big money on forwards but since we have gone for mediocre targets, our buying strategy has been trial and error in the past few years. This strategy is prone to mistakes. The other problem is that we can't seem to get rid of the players we don't need.

I also don't know how much of power Marotta has been given to make such decisions but it looks that he is shown the green light to go for a top forward every year but he keeps finishing the transfer window empty handed. It could have to do with his way of negotiation. I think he may be a bit too nice and honest for the job.

But let's be honest there, there are not that many top forwards out there and the ones that are available usually have City, Chelsea or some other insanely rich team to compete against. The only top strikers who would actually be worth paying insane money for and that we missed out on were Aguero and RVP, but there was no way in hell we could have won those bidding wars.
