Actually it's Marotta's fault he did not strengthen our weak points. In the beginning of the season we already knew that Asamoah will leave in January. In December we already knew about Chiellini's injury. And since the beginning of the season we were living our forwards ineptness (together with Bendtner's injury). In January where the opportunity is there to repair your team, Marotta goes and spends 5 M€ on Peluso who is NOT an upgrade to what we already have and brings Anelka who was going on retirement before we called him.

I just checked with Zac, and according to the balance sheets, we might be able to afford Suarez if we sell off 3 of our strikers this summer.

If not, Zac notified me that the board are working hard on either bringing Sanchez on loan with an obligation to buy from Barca, or possibly JoJo from Fiorentina with Matri/Quag going the other way.

We are also going to be looking at more interesting young prospects, and if any opportunities arise in the market (Pelusos, Padoins, Giac, Anelkas, and Bendtners) we will definitely be on the lookout for them ;)

his wagedemands were as good as you remember his ability to be

2008 style

i honestly don't care about that, fact is Drogba for me is one of the best big match players of the last decade, we moan and whine at how we don't take our chances fucking hell i'd put my money on Drogba outscoring any of our forwards between now and the end of the season.

who the fuck cares about his age, race, inability to speak italian and the last 2 letters of his surname is the noise a sheep makes, fact is he shits over anything we currently have in the attacking department and i can't help but think if we had him in a game like we faced tonight, we would have taken our chances just as lazio did

Common...you can't give him credit for that. Barzagli was washed up, Pirlo was deemed a has-been. When your career looks to be ending and a big club comes knocking with a decent paycheck why wouldn't you sign?
So you're talking about deals he negotiated, rather than just players that he helped revive.

Pogba and Asamoah come to mind.

But let's be honest there, there are not that many top forwards out there and the ones that are available usually have City, Chelsea or some other insanely rich team to compete against. The only top strikers who would actually be worth paying insane money for and that we missed out on were Aguero and RVP, but there was no way in hell we could have won those bidding wars.

Bidding wars? Lol. We bid 10m for RvP. Had we just paid the 24m Arsenal wanted, he would've been sold to us, not united, for the simple reason that ey didn't want him to stay in England. And the beauty of it it all, he would've paid for himself in large part being a globally recognised player. Not to mention, we wouldn't be wasting our time moaning about the Bendtners, Anelkas of the world. This year, it is these very so called 'depth' signings that are going to cost us the scudetto. When in fact if you go back to the start of the summer mercato, and take out the Giovinco and Isla deals, you'd have the money to buy RvP, and win things with a little more ease, because that's the department we've been lacking in since Marrotta's arrival.

He also scored the goal in the first leg against Lazio, but I know that doesn't count for the argument.
What argument would you want it to count for? Does it make him a better value for money player? Does it make him a better signing? The answer to both those questions is no. He's been signed as a defender, and he is nowhere close to understanding what that profile actually requires him to do. 5m down the drain, even if that goal in the first leg makes you feel better.

You're kidding yourself.

You're assuming that RVP actually wanted to join us, and not United. Which seems more than unlikely. Wenger's 'caramello' comment was a good indication that he had somewhere else in mind.

Then there is the small issue of his €14m salary that he earns at United.

True. A lot of people give him credit for the Barzagli deal but forget that Barzagli infact was signed to cover for Legrotagglie, he wasn't even meant to be a starter. Following his winter mercato signing, we were to buy Bruno Alves or someone in the summer, but Marrotta failed to secure the deal on mercato and we had no choice but to start him.

You focused on the negatives and deliberately ignored a positive to suit your argument, pretty simple.

That goal certainly did make me feel better, as a Juventus fan. Quite odd if it didn't really.

Marrotta himself said he regretted the RvP deal., and even said that the reason that it fell through was the buy out amount for a player in the last year of his contract. Salary was not the issue. I'm not assuming anything. Arsenal wanted an x amount of money. Even a bid close to that of United would've had the player on his way to Turin because they didn't want him to go to a title contender. The caramelol comment could've been used just as well coz Wenger thought Juve weren't in the running coz they hadn't made a serious enough bidl

Seeing the player, seeing the amount paid for him and seeing the circumstances of his purchase, do you really think that goal that you're talking about could be considered a positive in this context? A defender whose cost us 5m, and been the cause of two conceded goals and scored one, does it change anything for you now? Still a shit deal for me.
