Yes, but it's his job. When you are working for a top company/organization, you are not solely rated on your ability to take care of the easy bits. Par example, if I work for a recruitment company, it's not just about maintaining my client base, but also expanding the existing client list, cutting down costs, negotiating favorable contracts for both myself and existing/prospective candidates, etc...
Marotta has done well, but to label him "the best" or "without flaws" is absolutely ludicrous. Moreover, his repetitiveness regarding the "top player" saga is annoying and disheartening. We know we can't afford a top player; no need to constantly remind us, and highlight the merits of the team as a collective unit every single time. He comes across as being desperately apologetic in that sense.

He may or may not be the best in Italy. He's only been operating at a high level for 2 years (and not without flaws), coming from relative obscurity with lesser lights. If he manages to maintain these standards and improve some more in the coming 2-3 years, then he's indisputably the best in Italy, and arguably one of the top in the world.
I don't really like him, but credit where credit is due. We are champions, undefeated @ home, on a long unbeaten run in the league, and back to being one of the top 10 teams on the continent, so he's done a very good job.

You know what I'm saying though, Druski. I was really hard on the guy too, for a long time, because IMO he fucked up repeatedly early on. And any points about his budget relative to other directors, etc., are totally fair; the man has had plenty of resources at his disposal.
I just don't see the point in continually getting after him when we've basically lost one competitive match in over a year.
Beppe really does need to shut his yap about all this 'top player talk', though. So repetitive, it's nauseating.
But take faith, brother. The draw against Shak was disheartening (especially with the circumstances in the stadium, that crowd was embarrassing), but I think we all know that a draw at Stamford Bridge against the titleholders, in our first match back in CL, after going down 2-0 due to unfortunate circumstances... well, that was FAR from a bad result.

i dont get the isla signing, where was the competition for the pogba signing? even riola was on our side in that one...asamoah was a great signing, again gimme just one other team that was in the running to sign him.

its not like we snapped up these guys a day after being linked to them
also every other target that we failed to sign was because marotta kept penny pinching and ended up raising the price later claiming that we cannot affort to pay that much
athletico were perfectly alright with selling aguero for his buy out clause, were were a couple of millions away from signing him then the coppa america happened and athletica thanked us for not sealing the deal as suitors came rushing forward

you also have to remember we shoved pepe and marco freaking motta down our throats in order to have a good relationship with udinese, that helped too in the transfers of asamoah and the pointless isla
