Marotta will be truly judged on this summer's mercato in my view. We will hopefully be playing CL football next season, so he knows we will need CL players, if he doesn't deliver quality then he will have to be shown the door, and his only good eye ripped out for buying mostly shit players for 3 summers running.

Wouldn't read too much into it though, Caliendo is only second to Raiola when it comes to speaking crap. I am glad the club denied this, but I am waiting for Trezeguet's farewell match myself.
This is what everyone is afraid of, that he will not be able to deliver on this.
However, this poses a very interesting dilemna.
Can you fire a DS who had a hand in turning around a 7th place team to a CL squad in 2 years, without giving him the chance to be able to acquire the players?
And what i am going to say next even confuses me when I think about it. How far along in the summer do you go, if the reality sets in that he can't obtain said CL quality players, before you fire him?
It's a very delicate issue, when you think about it.
You say to yourself, "OK, Marotta. You helped get Juve this far, now its time to step up and take it to the next level."
But the transfer window is 2 months long, its not a sprint. Do people call for his heads if no significant activity takes place within the first three weeks?
Moggi was at his best during the last 2 weeks of the transfer window (Zlatan on the last day, for example)
I'm hoping Marotta has the intelligence to see we need a step up in quality in some areas of the pitch, my biggest wonder is if Conte would knock on Marotta's door in late May with a list of players that he would like us to sign, would Marotta do his own thing or listen to Conte and buy the player he wants?

That's the thing. I think Conte has the balls to tell the BOD what he wants & needs. It's up to the club to go get them and not end up coming back with a Boriello/Krasic type of shit player because we missed our main target.
The biggest thing this summer IMO is the Plan B. If we go for a Dzeko/Aguero type player, we don't need to have a Plan B of Toni/Krasic, etc.

I don't think the issue, in regards to people around here having the patience of a gnat afflicted with Attention Deficit Disorder, would be whether or not it would be players that Conte demanded, or marotta is looking for, per se.

This is not American Sports where turning a bad team into a good team is extremely difficult. In football, if you have money and you're a big team you can basically turn anything around in one mercato. Also, Marotta is bossing over Italy's biggest team Juventus and he got a budget of 100 million to make it happen.
Look, obviously he won't get fired this summer but if he doesn't deliver this summer then firing him in 2013 could be possibility unless we win the Scudetto. This summer is really important to him and us. For 2 straight years he has been showing more interest in quantity than quality players. And if signing guys like Padoin, Borriello, Quag and Pazienza is his philosophy of how to run a football team, then he'll stick with it. For now we've been saying that Marotta still hasn't sign quality players because we don't have Champions League football and we're looking more towards depth than quality. Maybe thats not the reason and the reason is that Marotta doesn't believe in splashing big money on 1 player? If so, then he should get fired.

This whole argument reminds me of Secco's first couple of seasons with us (back from serie B). People were giving him credit for finishing both 3rd and 2nd in the table even with all his fuck ups in the transfer market.
Marrota is better than Secco no doubt but still the guy at best is average. Guys here will say what they said about Secco back then (don't rush into judging him just yet, give him some time!!). I guess either ways we're forced to wait probably till 2013 and see what happens then but personally I'm not too optimistic about him.
