I don't find anything odd in Marotta's interview. He called Ibra and Messi top class players and indeed those are difficult to acquire, especially for a club that can't financially compete with the likes of City, Real, Barca etc. Let's take a Higuain as an example, if he Real decide to sell him than Chelsea and City will 100% be after him and what we could offer him that those two can't.

On the other hand that doesn't justify signing players like Borriello and Padoin. If we can't compete for top class players than we should go for younger players with potential, which seems like we are doing (Buoy, Appelt, Pogba?).

Well secco was the biggest joke in this sport, I think it's a bit ridiculous to compare anyone with him.
Well your statement did imply that you were looking for a more significant case of wasting money, I just replied :D

I think to sign the sort of players fans want you need a Secco type back in charge. It might work in another scenario, but is disastrous if it doesn't. Marotta's way isn't disastrous, it's a gradual process, but we do need quality sooner rather than later. I also wonder how much he is tied by the people above him.

Yeah the bottom line tells its own story, although he chips away at budgets and balances more than is probably given credit for. I think he spent about €15m net the first season and then quite a lot more last summer, but I wonder if the BOD baulk when we are talking about big players for big wages, because it doesn't just affect that transfer, it has a knock on effect at the entire wage structure at the club.

Bonucci = 15 millions , Martinez = 12 mil, Matri = 18 mil ( he's been solid but still 18 million is quiet a lot for a Cagliari player ).

If that is not overpaying, I don't know what is ?
Well, we certainly weren't in any position to call the shots during those negotiations, thats for sure. Especially the Matri deal, all of our strikers were injured at the time. Let's see what Marotta can do with some Champions League qualification eh?
