He didn't overpay for Vucinic. We're talking about a quality pllayer who can make the difference. He gave us 3 points against Siena, even though it was Matri who finished the move off.

He did, however, overpay for Pepe, Bonucci and Martinez.

With regards to selling Amauri and Iaquinta, I'm behind those who say that Marotta did all he could. How much more can you do when 1) they're both on Secco-crazy salaries and 2) would rather chill on their sofas at home instead of playing football?

There are other examples as well, but all in all I'm pretty satisfied with Marotta. He's not a perfect GM, but please keep in mind: there is no such thing as a perfect GM. How would you rate the following Galliani-transfers?: Ibrahim Ba, Taribo West, Redondo, Javi Moreno, Roque Junior, Vogel, Kalac, Bonera, Bogarde, Jose Mari, Gilardino etc.

The GM will always make some mistakes, but the important thing is that the good outweighs the bad, so that the club is constantly moving forward. Secco was all bad, Marotta at least is getting a lot of things right.

It was our GM that made the transfer of the summer: Pirlo. We also got Vidal, Vucinic, Lichtsteiner and Elia for very decent prices.

Good GM's are good negotiators and deal with those problems. That's what they're hired for. Marotta is not a good negotiator when it comes to getting rid of players.

Obviously, the old guard was/is not the same as before, they aged. I also acknowledge the fact that Marotta's first year was horrible in term of signings and it sure contributed to last year's 7th place.

Sure, we can come up with the excuse/reason of the old guard, or whatever else you may think of. But the fact remains that Secco managed to keep / give what was necessary to achieve immediate results. In extremely difficult circumstances I may add.

Obviously not only Secco, just like it's not only Marotta now, but rather a group of people.

@ Dru: Well, fair enough. It's your opinion. And the tifosi should never keep criticizing, because it's important that our GM constantly is feeling the heat of having such an important position at a top club. This is much more of a task for the italian tifosi, of course, who are closer to the day to day running of the club. But still, critique can be useful.

My agenda is only that I want the criticism to be justified, and I also think it's important to praise a person when that person does something right. Credit where credit is due, and same goes with critique.

That's not a valid point at all, because it's only scratching the surface of why it went that way. Valid points are based on facts that reflect things as they were, not as they would appear without further research.

Yes, it's a fact that Marotta's Juve hasn't reached CL yet, but at the same time it's also a fact that a lot of that has to do with the damage Secco has done. So what's the point in praising Secco?

I'll give him credit where its due. He made some good signings last mercato. Some very good signings as well. He could have done much better though had he not overpaid for such poor players and had he been more competent selling the likes of Melo and Giovinco. If Pepe is worth 10M by Marotta's standards, then Giovinco must be worth 15M euros and yet we will lose all of him for very very little. The same applies for Melo who was one of the only players here who had a decent season and probably shouldn't have been sold in the first place. He could have been sold for well over 10M euros while Marotta could have saved money on his very poor transfers. That would have left us with tens of millions of euros to spend on better players. Vucinic and Elia (well at least Vucinic is) are good but we could have gotten better had the funds not already been wasted not to mention buy a left back and center back.

Just because he's done an okay job doesn't mean he shouldn't be criticized for his mistakes. We could be a progressing much quicker if Marotta were more competent.

Because he's now playing regularly, find consistent form (as of now) and is an Italian international.
