It's one thing if we the fans demand top players.

It's a completely different thing when the man who makes the deals guarantees them.

But according to many members here that is excusable and again allow the man to wash his hands clean.
as Greg rightly put it,posturing for the press and actually having the guile to pull it off are two completely different things. many clubs GM's promise things that they have no intention or ability to commit to
like Dusan when he promises to satisfy a woman

I've got a better idea, lets have a snorkeling party in Rab's hot tub. We haven't done that in a while

I ask for a well functioning team, and that starts with a coach all the way to primavera acquisitions. We cant keep getting inexperienced coaches AND change our whole setup every time we hire one. Conte needed to make do with we have and get the best of them, and we needed desperately to add quality in defense and in the creative side. Licht was a good acquisition, once again not WC. For creativity, we got pirlo, who has just as many question marks as he has skill. We then proceeded to replace melo, who was not part of the problem or anywhere near being a priority. We added Vucinic whom i rate but once again a luxury imo since as good as he is we need to plug bigger holes elsewhere, which takes us to our last transfer, elia. And as it is the norm, another player with more question marks than larry king. The sad part is we would have been ok with all fo this had beppe gotten us that much needed CB. But no he couldnt even do that. And now not only are we facing another season with yes you guessed it a LOT of question marks, but we also are running the risk of failing and being stuck with players only brought for the sake of this here system.

no European football, always makes a mercato harder as players want to play at the highest level NOW,not next season.
we have addressed most of the issues of last season and strengthened the first 11 with players who are good enough for Serie A,no world beaters but then again we are not the most attractive proposition right now.
i would have liked to have ridden ourselves of some of the dead wood but given the fact that we still pay extremely good wages it is always hard to convince these players to leave without substantial benefits

in a way he is in a no-win situation,we don't have the funds or attraction of european football to seal deals for the very top players and those we are capable of signing do not excite the fans. we have a squad now capable of at least competing for and gaining CL football for next year, sadly this is our current level of ambition
so you think that signing Lugano and Alex was harder than signing Vidal and Vucinic???

Lugano got 4.5m a year from PSG,i thnk it would be irresponsible to pay out that much

Alex...i have to say i am a little relieved that never went through,i don't rate him

you will always pay a premium in salary when picking up a player on free, plus i am confident we could have gotten him for cheaper since we were the more attractive option

You're being way to selective here. Obviously guys like Sissoko, Tiago, Grygera, Grosso, Amauri, Iaquinta can leave anytime.

The past couple of years, we've gotten rid of guys like Diego, Melo, Giovinco, Pasquato, and even Martinez who could have been used for depth in a 4-3-3. Those are players who may not be perfect, but could have played in THIS Juventus, no problem. We spent 60M+ on those guys, and have got 20M to show for their departure as of right now.

It's the constant turnover. It's the 23 players in 460 days. We need a manager who is flexible enough to employ a formation that isn't excessively rigid.

exactly and to compound it it's not like the coaches with these rigid tactics are proven world beaters

Marotta did not fail because he didnt buy Aquero,
he failed because he bought Quaq despite the fact that he knew that he will opt for someone like Vucinic next and will fail to sell Amauri or Iaquinta.
He failed because he gifted away Melo and then forced to buy a replacement, in the last place our squad should look for more players, after the very early acquisitions of Pirlo and Piazenza.
He failed to sign a better winger than Elia and a better LB, than Zeglier, because he has allocated far too much time on signing 2 players we did need (Vidal+Vucinic) considering our performances last season and early acquisitions.
He failed to make up for his 20mil mistake Bonucci, by signing Lugano or Alex, for the money we gave on EstiG+Giaccherini.
And finally he failed for favoring once again quantity over quality, in a season that we were supposed to build for the future and avoid too competition, as we will not compete in Europe, play less games and need less depth.
