@Buck Fuddy: Was just surfing Tj moments ago, came across this in tonight's articles: DiMarizio ironically mentioned something about the JoJo deal. Again, choose to believe it or not is an individual prerogative.

"On the front Jovetic it must be remembered that his agent Ramadani showed up at the end of the transfer market last August with an offer of 30 million of Juventus, Fiorentina declined due to time constraints and difficulties in finding a replacement of Montenegro."

We offered 30m for freaking Jojo who while a good player is nowhere near WC quality at this point. So how do we claim we don't have money to pay for them and Marrotta is completely absolved of the blame while the media, fans and 'informers' take a hit?
Source? I've been seeing this go around, yet I've never seen anything at all that confirms it. I think what may have happened is that we enquired, destabilized that situation a bit, didn't make an offer initially, or at least a good enough 'real' offer, and then Fiorentina decided that they didn't want to fuck around with their best player, not fair to leave the fans hanging when a good offer wasn't in place, so they just shut it all down. Then we tried to push it a bit afterwards, but they'd already made up their minds and told everyone (fans, etc.) he was staying.

I'd actually like to see us bid 25-30M for his services again this summer (would be amazing if we could do a part exchange). I'm a big Jojo believer, he'd be my primary target.

Improvement is also needed and while he has done a good job we can do better; continuity was more needed in the past years than this one imo. Also, it's not like we're considering changing all of the board (now that would be disastrous), simply one position of it. As I said many times, if we can't find better then fine, no problem at all, but if we find someone (not necessarily in Italy) that is more competent, why oppose to it?
Successful sports franchises are almost invariably those with significant continuity, especially those franchises who have sustained success.

Brother, not sure what you're looking for, but 7th/7th --> Scudetto --> Scudetto + CL QF is improvement, it's very, very significant improvement... and this season's results were achieved despite Conte missing nearly half the season through suspension. Meanwhile, our financial situation is seriously improved. Hugely. I mean, how much improvement do you expect on a year to year basis? You were a Nordiques fan, right? Sacrebleu, let's not get carried away here just because the league dynamic is different. :p

If you were to pull posts of mine from 20+ months ago (definitely not worth it :D ), you would see that I was about as critical of this man's work as anyone on here. He had made some very large blunders on the job, and wasted a lot of resources. However, even then I acknowledged that there is a learning curve for a job of this stature; nobody goes from Sampdoria to Juventus without needing to learn a few lessons about the difference in how the inner workings of those clubs (and their fan bases) operate.

It makes absolutely zero sense to can Marotta when everything is going so well for Juventus; they have achieved the objectives set out by the board in each of the past two seasons. Not renewing BM's (hehe) contract would count amongst the most bizarre moves that I've ever seen in sports management, and I know very well the details of his time in charge here. Even Zamparini isn't crazy enough, let's put it that way.

BM has developed what seems like a strong working relationship with those running the club (witness he and Agnelli celebrating after nearly every important goal this season; I have heard the rumours about tension with Conte, but I have personally seen nothing to demonstrate that - I think that's media/fan conjecture, based on the desire for a big name to arrive up front). Chopping and changing at this point means that somebody new has to reforge relationships with a lot of people, has to learn about the inner workings of Juventus, and frankly, we could easily end up worse off than we are. Easily. Also, considering we're a bit strapped for cash, and doing a lot of deals domestically, I'm not sure we want to bring in a DS who doesn't know the Italian landscape as well as Beppe. A big name, or spending lots of money do not equal guarantees in this business.

Change for the sake of change, while it can be fun in some aspects of life, it's not something I'd like to see our management get into the habit of. Change for the sake of a very specific, defined, carefully calculated goal? Different story, and at this point, it shouldn't really be Juve's story - considering our trajectory has been steadily rising.

I like the idea of a short deal for Beppe (see if he's truly got what it takes), with the possibility of eventually making Paratici his successor.

So I'm getting through to you 50% of the time?

:notbad:
Staggering rate of success if you ask my parents.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think our €30m offer was fairly common knowledge.

Llorente alone is not enough.
Enough for what, winning the CL?

This is true! Hopefully a free Llorente proves to be a good first step.

Frankly, I don't even truly rate Llorente as a significant upgrade, although he will almost certainly improve our build up play (but in fairness, I've only seen him in action about 7 times, few of those as a sub). It's pretty clear that we need more than 1 upgrade in attack, but considering this is a guy who was legitimately on the radar of Madrid (or so their management has said), adding him for free looks like a pretty solid move to me.

Plus, the only way it would be possible to add multiple established quality players up front is if we're getting one on the very cheap. That's done before the mercato has even begun, so I would say we're in good shape at the moment, it's added some flexibility to what we can do (in terms of sales and purchases).

One thing is for certain if we haven't signed any striker by August this year we know we're not getting anyone good.

Marotta hopefully learns waiting till the last minute has failed him every window.
