On the contrary, he knows exactly, what he wants: the cheapest player with some stature. Which is why the characteristics are not considered.

We went from Aguero to Pastore to Sanchez to Vucinic last year. Different players. We've gone from RVP to Higuain to Cavani to JoJo to Suarez to Dzeko to Llorente this year. All very different again, but these links have changed so drastically because it's clear Marrotta wants a deal on his terms, not on the terms of a selling club. Therein lies his incompetency to close. The media doesn't make these links up, there is some truth to every link, and others are well documented by the man himself. Its not hilarious at all actually. This is as good a position we will be in, financially, depth wise and having the image of undefeated champs, and if the best wen can do is Llorente, I'd say Marrotta cannot sign top players. Having said that, I genuinely believe we are all going to be surprised come 31st August, coz there are some deals with which we've very clearly just bided our time without revealing our real targets. I expect a big name signing, and certainly bigger than Pazzini.

It's quite obvious negotiations stopped when either a bid from another club started, the selling club demanded a non-negotiable sum or when the selling club did not accept the terms Marotta provided.

The point remains theres no smoke without fire. Every high profile player we have been linked with has been well within our means. Marrotta has mentioned and addressed these names himself. The figures maybe false, the negotiations and how far in talks we have may have been, could be misreported, but I would like to think we have made an approach with everybody we have opened a trasnfer thread for. From RVP, Suarez and JoJo to Cavani, Higuain and Dzeko, and finally down to Llorente. Sure agents can plant stories and the media can speculate within the realm of a particular deal, and misquote players, but the links have some element of truth in them. Especially this summer, and in our case. Same with last summer when we were linked with everyone from Aguero, Pastore, Higuain etc.
