The point remains theres no smoke without fire.
With transfer rumours there clearly is, journalists just make stuff up based on probability.

Although I agree that if Marotta responds to questions on certain players then we can assume we have interest. But then we could also assume he is lying, or using players to manipulate other deals.

The point remains theres no smoke without fire. Every high profile player we have been linked with has been well within our means. Marrotta has mentioned and addressed these names himself. The figures maybe false, the negotiations and how far in talks we have may have been, could be misreported, but I would like to think we have made an approach with everybody we have opened a trasnfer thread for. From RVP, Suarez and JoJo to Cavani, Higuain and Dzeko, and finally down to Llorente. Sure agents can plant stories and the media can speculate within the realm of a particular deal, and misquote players, but the links have some element of truth in them. Especially this summer, and in our case. Same with last summer when we were linked with everyone from Aguero, Pastore, Higuain etc.
“Van Persie is one of the best players in circulation,” “It is possible that he, along with Suarez and Higuain, will be one of the top players we are after. They are interesting players.”
“Cavani? You always have to consider the desire of the clubs which own players.
“We have never thought about Balotelli. He doesn’t fit the profile we are looking at, a profile which isn’t based solely on technical ability.”

And we definitely were linked with Balotelli this summer (SKY had it IIRC), around the time he got called up for Italy. A lot gets made up, we've been linked with a scrub like Adebayor for fucking years. Marotta doesn't really confirm anything here, not like he did when he said van Persie was too expensive or the other day when he confirmed interest in Llorente.

Look at the player we are linked in last 3 months; Van Persie, Suarez, Higuain, Jovetic, Llorente. Every one of them has different characteristics. Marotta clearly has no idea about what is he after.
It's an approach that I can't say I'm a fan of.

Pick the type of player you want and try and get the best one you can.

Don't just decide you want a 'top player' and look at players in that bracket, regardless of how well they would appear to fit with what Juve need.

Jovetic was the really weird one.

At least all the others can play as a CF in some fashion.

I don't think so, Pazzini can be signed at any moment, Inter have discarded him. It's only a possibility, anyway. If we are still not going to pay a large fee and salary to a player whatever tactic we use will be unlikely to succeed. Players who want out and/or at smaller clubs will remain the targets.

I agree but Conte should be there for this to happen.
It'll certainly be more difficult without him, but I still expect us to finish at least top 3 in the league without him.

There's no point in being all emo about it, especially since the season hasn't even started yet and the possibility of us getting a great striker is still there.

It's either too good or too bad in this forum. No middle ground whatsoever.
