At the end of the day, its not either having a Man City mercato or a shitty Marotta mercato. There is something in between and there is a lot of excellent players all around Europe that have made names for themselves and that Man City, Barcelona and Real don't really want. Marotta's plan B sucks, if he can't get Aguero or Dzeko he goes off signing some random players that have nothing to do in a team that aims to win the scudetto. Whats the point of getting almost 25 new players in a year? And to be honest, I don't think any of the players he has signed would walk into our rivals Inter and Milan starting eleven. Year after year we suck and the problem is clearly the lack of quality yet they always talk about foundation year after year. You get a good foundation when your starters get sent to the bench by the new players and not signing players for your bench.
You can keep crying, bitching and moaning, but the fact is.. Marotta coulda woulda shoulda done better with the money, but our current team is way better than last year.

Vidal, Vucinic, Lich, Pirlo are fucking awesome and would break into the starting 11 of any team. Not to mention Buffon, Man-Gorilla and in-form-Matri.

I'd wait on Elia but he's definitely not a terrible player based on all the dutch feedback I read about him.

If the problem is really a lack of funds then why are we consistently able to spend 12mil on Martinez, 10mil on Pepe etc.

We have plenty of money it just gets wasted.
I will agree to us having a large budget, better than most clubs. When Marotta bought Pepe and Martinez he tried to make clever investments. "Bang for the buck". Unfortunately, those deals were awful, they truly were. But no DS is perfect. Galliani brought Milan shit players lots of times. Ibrahim Ba, Taribo West, Redondo, Oliveira, Roque Junior etc. Moggi brought us players such as Gladstone, Kapo and Blasi, to name a few..

I think he means that we have the money.
Ok. But those transfers in mention (Melo and Diego, and I shall add: Amauri) did the club some serious damage. The club has probably changed policy after this. After all, they kicked Secco out. That isn't to say that we won't spend 25 million on a player ever again, but I think they want to be absolutely certain next time, that it's worth it.

Blame Marotta for this?

That's weird, considering he wasn't even a Juventus-employee at the time...
Not to blame Marotta but to prove we actually have money and can compete for players who are up to, let's say 30 mil. € price tag.

The only thing it proves is that we had a director at the time who was willing to spend the major part of his budget on two players we didn't even need. And he got sacked for it.

If you want to see more of this policy, then like I said, your beef is with EXOR and Juventus as a company, not necessarily with Marotta as a DS. He cannot do as he pleases, you know. He's bound by 1) the budget and 2) the club policies. If you've payed attention this summer, Marotta has not been the only one talking about "buying players on our own terms". It is a Juventus slogan and an EXOR slogan too.

Sure, Marotta is on the Juve board, but it's not like he has absolute power when it comes to these matters. They vote.

who in italy had a better mercato than us?
we didnt need 1-2 or 3 players, we needed alot more. both for first 11 and backup. when quag got inj. last year, we lost the ability to score goals, and lost points, so decent backup players are important.
even if you think that we should spend it all on 2-3 players, that would not make us stronger as a team. with your plan we would have big holes in our squad, and it would take many years to become competitive.
we are in the process of rebuilding juve, even if we all had hoped we would be back at the top sooner.

It's irrelevant that Secco was willing to spent the majority of the budget on those 2 players and it's debatable we didn't need those players. He got sacked for the other signings, I believe. Marotta will suffer the same fate, my friend.

gio and diego have no place in a 4-4-2 or 4-2-4.

they where never anywhere near our best players. Melo was good last year, but vidal will be better, and offer more than melo did.

Let's STOP overrating Melo please. loaning him for 1.3 million was a disaster of epic proportions, but everyone in Italy fucking hated him. He semi-redeemed himself last season but he was still unstable and inconsistent.
