Basically.

Eriksen would be a 10/10 for them, but Giroud and Young?

And selling Lautaro will be a bigger blow than signing Eriksen.
I’ll give you Young, mediocre player, but he is purely cover for them, another option off the bench.

Disagree about Giroud tho. Good, underrated striker, can hold up the ball well and get others involved, great cover for their front two.

Marotta had his moments here, but he left because he reached his ceiling.

The problem with beppe is that all his signings are the danilos and girouds of the world, with the ocassional lautaro.

Thats good for abusing serie A farmer teams, but once you get to certain standards, marottta stops cutting it and you all know it.

Get off your nostalgia glassess

Giroud is gonna be back up. Currently they don't have another striker with the physical presence of Lukaku, hence why the need a backup. Don't tell me Giroud isn't good enough as back up striker for Inter.
The thing that annoys me most is that back then when we were in Inter's position we signed Anelka and the forum was set on fire.

IDK if you were here back then, but I am sure that there may be someone who defends the Giroud move now, but asked Beppe's head in that time.

You compare a finished Anelka with Giroud?

I think i too laughed at the transfer but didn't really bother, as i was sure he wasn't gonna play much.

Don't quite get the Giroud comparison tbh. He is in good shape, fit's Conte and the 352, and they don't have a back up for Lukaku. A transfer that makes perfect sense for them.

Let's not pretend that Marotta didn't do well at Juventus...he did. However his selling policy was flawed imo, and its partly the reason why our midfield has suffered. Also, people tend to forget that his first season was terrible (2011). It took until his second season (2012) to sign the likes of Vidal and Pirlo and the one after with Tevez and pogba. Still weird seeing him and Conte at Inter.

Yeah watch him sell lautaro this summer, you nerds never learn this guy never had a strategy except jumping on market opportunities and praying to God the coach somehow makes it work, but go ahead and keep your nostalgia goggles on.
A lot of that made sense though at the time considering the squad was significantly weaker and we had less money. adding quality wherever you could improved the team in most areas and market opportunities where the best way to afford to do.

what doesnt make sense is the club continuing on that policy when it is no longer necessary/ sensible and claim they are targetting nothing short of CL victory

De ligt and ronaldo are market opportunities? Top 3 spenders, i think for midfield we just had no proven player available, by available i mean player wanting to join and or club willing to sell for close to market value.

also if one was available we needed to sell a top player like Dybala. We couldn't sell Higuain and Mario and Sami had bas contracts nobody wanted.

not necessarily but what formation/ style is this squad built for exactly? It still looks to me very much like some pretty random pieces that the coach is just expected to put together even if they are much better pieces but like i said thats because the club has the money for it now. by market opportunities i did not mean they have to be cheap but are signed because they appear to be a good opportunity ala talent per dollar/ raiola player etc rather than creating a cohesive identity with depth in key positions so we arent playing a 433 one injury away from having to scrap the whole thing. maybe you see the current squad differently.

I think our strategy is to go for playmakers which is very different from market opportunities, also it's silly to expect cohesiveness on the first season of a coach joining in with a new philosophy, if we believe in sarri then i really see us going for a player he will specifically ask for this summer and with some luck you will see a much more in tune team.

When was the last time we signed someone as good as Eriksen for our midfield? :shifty:

Pjanic at his best is Eriksen level, but he’s not near as consistent, unfortunately. But even him we signed 4 years ago.
Pjanic. Pjanic is on the same level as Eriksen.

We literally make crazy signings every year.
