And I invite you to watch the entire season before that.

Regardless of whether you think it is so or not, this was the best team and season we've had post-calciopoli. It sucks we lost in the CL final, but this team dominated all the way there. 45 minutes of abomination isn't any different than the abomination that was the first half in Berlin, where Vidal was our worst player.

We finished with more points this year than 2014-15
We topped our CL group easily, as opposed to squeaking into the knockouts in 14-15 with losses to Olympiacos and Atletico.
We dominated the knockout rounds. 12 goals scored-1 against. Crushed Porto-Barca-Monaco. In 14-15 we smashed relegation zone Dortmund, then barely squeaked by Monaco and Madrid.
We annihilated Lazio in the Coppa final, as opposed to barely eeking out a win in 14-15.
We had better goal differential in both Serie A and CL this year as opposed to 14-15.

Yes, we won the same trophies each year, lost in the CL final. But this year was far more convincing.

All those things are objective facts. We were a superior team. And managed to hold off the best teams in Serie A in this 6 year run, in Napoli and Roma with over 86 points each.

You are welcome to go on and on with your silliness about CL final loss is same as coming in last place in the group, but absolutely no player, coach, manager, owner, anyone involved in football agrees with you. It's utter rubbish.

Everyone knows we need an upgrade on Khedira. But acting like he has been a disaster for us is entirely absurd. Especially basing your opinion on one single game. If we get to do that, I get to say Vidal sucked balls for us, because he was easily as bad against Barca in 14-15 as Khedira was against Madrid in Cardiff.

I agree with this entire post except Khedira.

While vidal was not his usual self, all of khedira's weaknesses where outed in the final

- Jogs when he should rush back
- Doesnt defends his box
- Unable to step up and take on the midfield
- Defensively past it
And he was as bad as dogpoo

Khedira's lack of mobility was exposed in the final because he lost his defensive support from Pjanic and Mandzukic who were carrying injuries. He hasn't suddenly turned into a liability in that role, but of course he can't be expected to deal with marauding midfielders, it's not his strength.

Khedira's weaknesses are exposed in a 2 man midfield. He is much better in a 3 man. We will need a muscle man if we wish to keep playing a 2 man midfield.

I fully agree, but we need the player in his position to be able to deal with them

Crushed, annihilated, squeaked... Much rhetoric? I'll summarize your post factually: we lost the final.

Now I won't even get into the comparison between vidal and khedira because 1. That's nonsense and 2. how selective your memory is once a player is sold.

It's not a comparison. Both played absolute stinkers in CL finals. Our vaunted midfield got outplayed by Rakitic-Iniesta-Busquets in 2014-15, in large part because Vidal was a no show.

All the same, Vidal is a far better player. I've said many times that the Vidal sale was the worst move of the Marotta era.

Still wasn't a disaster. And  at calling me out about rhetoric when you are going on and on about this "disaster" or that "failure" and so on, when we were 45 minutes away from a perfect season. A disaster would be a transfer that actually caused us to massively regress in terms of tangible results. Whereas the Khedira-Pjanic duo in midfield was excellent this year until the last game of the season, in which Khedira had a nightmare.

We need an upgrade on Khedira. Vidal is a far better player. Obviously.

Doesn't change the fact everything I said is correct. I provided facts that show our 16-17 team was better. Points, goal difference, wins... in every measurable, this team was superior.

Please, continue rating the entire season on one single game. That's not silly at all. 50-60 games played.

:agree:

Khedira's performances were best down the stretch in the 2 man mid. People are making out that his atrocious performance in Cardiff was the norm, but it pretty obviously wasn't. He had an excellent last few months of the season until that match.

I still think we need an upgrade, in large part so we have better rotation ability. As soon as Pjanic shut down (injury or whatnot) in the CL final, we looked terrible and had no answer on the bench.

Perhaps I'm in the minority that thinks Khedira was better in a 3 man mid in 15-16. I mean I thought his form in general was better despite him facing injury setbacks.

Last season , he was really poor until Allegri brought that change to 4-2-3-1 where he looked solid but unspectacular.

The most important signings are still to come, we won't improve as a team without a dynamic CM and a quality RB. If signing both Costa and Berna doesn't allow us to sign one of them or forces us to sell a starter, I'd rather see us signing just one of them

I guess its only the two of us...
