Marotta: 'Juve as strong as 2006'
By Football Italia staff

Beppe Marotta confirmed Max Allegri’s contract renewal is “a formality” and this Juventus is “just as strong” as the pre-Calciopoli side.
The Bianconeri won their fifth consecutive Serie A title on Monday, thanks to Napoli’s 1-0 defeat at Roma.

“Our march was extraordinary and credit goes above all to the team and the Coach,” Marotta told Sportitalia.

“It goes without saying Allegri will continue with us, as the contract renewal is a formality that will be finalised as soon as possible.
“For now we’ve allowed the team a few days of rest, but by next week there will be the signature.
“After the defeat to Sassuolo (on October 28) there was a turning point, in part also thanks to certain players recovering from injury. From that moment on, we put together 24 wins and a draw.

“We were aware of initial difficulties and also that we could make up for them. We didn’t think we could win the Scudetto with three rounds to spare, but optimism did reign consistently.”
There have been debates around whether this is the strongest Juve of all time, which ties into the issue of how many Serie A titles the club actually won.
The Bianconeri – and Gigi Buffon – made it clear they consider it to be 34, including the two stripped in the Calciopoli trial of 2006.
“Many years have passed, so it’s difficult to make comparisons,” added Marotta. “That Juve was as strong as this one. The club always showed it wanted victory and it’s not a coincidence Juve have won five consecutive Scudetti.”

Inter-Udinese made history as the first Serie A match without any Italian players in the starting 22.
“An Italian representation is fundamental. We have a core of Italian players who realise full well what it means to visit the smaller teams and interpret the game in the right way. We must find the best youngsters in circulation on the market to create the Italian core for the future too.”
I even think that this side could be stronger than the 2006 one.

Yes we had Ibra , Viera and the whole old guard... but i find this team also has very technical a players with less of a name, but with equal input or maybe even more. Buffon, Pogba,Bon,Barza, Dybala, Cuadrado, mandz, Lemina, Morata, Zaza, Sandro.

Some of them are not of the name caliber of our past players like Viera , emerson, Zambrotta, Thuram and Ibra.. but as a whole, i find this team way more dangerous and cohesive.

Last but not least, we had Capello back in the day,,, who made us play VERY negatively (CL runs were a disaster).... while now we have Allegri which is a positive evolving coach. Thats a BIG difference

We're not 2006 level yet, we still have work ahead. We're doing better in Europe, but that's just because 2006 squad was massively underachieving. Capello made us play like crap.

There's no way this squad is as strong as the one in 2006.

You had Del Piero and Trez ripping it off. You had Mutu and Ibra on the bench. That was incredible and insane.

You also had Nedved and Camo. Not to mention Zambrotta, Cannavaro and others in defense who were brilliant.

Sure, we're good right now, but it's not even close. Majority of those players from 2005 don't even exist nowadays.

The other thing is that the 2006 team were all vastly experienced, with the exception of Ibra, who was obviously a unique talent. It was a team built to win everything. The current team has a few years to grow, with the exception of Buffon and Barzagli.

Yes.

But I'd ignore that. Yet again this season we've seen what can one Leicester do. Without any experience. We've seen the same when Atletico crushed everyone.

You're either good or bad.

Maybe the problem was capello then. We had a lot of experience and names, but that team from 2006 is overhyped as fuck. We played like shid when it mattered (cL), and cruised the league with snoring grindfests.

We will never know the true potential of that team tho.... because capello heavily influenced the gameplan and ill give you that, but really, apart from some Zlatan magic.... that team played like shid.

All names and no substance.

This year we plat much more like a team, even with less stablished names.
