Yes you are so attractive to their former clubs.Very attractive and generous Ozil 52 mil ans Alexis around 40,Sanchez was willing to come here but we refused to pay that fee.Rightfully. Moratta is deadly predator for half of Sanchez price and is younger.
Ya, you have to pay big sums of money for players like Sanchez and Ozil, and you have to give them huge salaries too.

So that's makes you a bigger team?By paying ridiculous transfer fees and wages and be 4-th .Very good strategy .
We're not talking about bigger teams, we're talking about what it takes to attract top players.

City can attract players more than Juve, does that mean they're a better/bigger team? No it doesn't.

Can we close this thread until the press conference is over? Otherwise there will be too many double posts here and in the LIVE thread.

Allegri's thread too.

Well what you basically say is that you attract players by amount of money.
I will understand reasonable (even that is in doubt what it means at today's ) prices but not ridiculous fees.City only attract players only with huge sums of oil money.Nothing more.Apart from that title and some Cup what they achieved for that billions?
You also attract players only for money.Nothing more.Otherwise they will go to MU,Chelsea or Lpool.
Before some time you bought unknown players almost for free and earn a fortune of selling them.
Now you pay a lot of money for players. In both cases the "success" in EPL and CL is the same.Strange.

thats yet to be seen if he will be as big a loss as Tevez considering we still are looking for a new AM. we replaced him and Pirlo with (so far) Khedira and Asamoah (if a new LB arrives). lets wait and see who else will arrive till we make a conclusion on the midfield
So many ifs, so many question marks still hanging in the air.

We are defintely weaker than last year, like Alen mentionned players like Tevez, Pirlo, Vidal struck fear in our opponants even if they were out of form, can't say the same about Dybala and Khedira....
We may not lose much in quality if we make a couple of good signings ( AM, LB ) but we will lose that fear factor we had... Teams will come out knowing we are weaker than we used to be and won't respect us as much....

Totally! But what is annoying that we still have to wait and see, I really don't know what we are waiting for. Even if we sign Götze and Sandro (whom I consider the most rated targets we are after) we still have dropped in quality.

Let them. And when they come attacking, and open themselves up , they will have to deal with Dybala, Morata, Gotze/Draxler leading the break, and Pogba and Asamoah trailing behind them.

Good luck with that.

Oh, and that defense will still be there, as well as Gigi.

:agree:

Tevez wasn't initially a striker that instilled fear either. He found that again/best form he has ever been in here.

Those 3 were a huge part of our core for years, it's probably going to take a while for the squad to get gelled in the new way

Can't the same about Khedira, but we really don't know how good Dybala is yet. You also forgot to mention Mandzukic.

Still extremely strong team, even without fancy AM. I hope we get Sandro as long term solution for LB spot and one potentially good AM like Draxler. Pretty sure we'll bring players for those two spots before mercato ends.

I will say this.

#1) I honestly do not believe that the squad we see today will be the same that we see a month from now. I think that at the very least, a Trequartista will come in. One with the offensive qualities that Allegri himself stated in the press conference that he wants.

#2) Although on paper this team may not instill the same amount of fear (that does remain to be seen. I don't remember Serie A squads quaking in their boots when El Guerrero first came here) this team will not be dependent on the form of one player.

For the first two years, this club was primarily Pirlo dependent. For the last two, it was Tevez. This can be interpreted several different ways, but with the amount of quality players that we have in attack with Morata, Dybala, and Mandzukic, with Coman being a year older, and the hopefully promised Trequartista, this will be more balanced.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't love to have Tevez here, because obviously I would have. But I do feel that once this squad is more complete, it will be more unpredictable. And with Allegri and his vast knowledge of tactics, this could be very interesting.

Cautiously optimistic, but that will drop faster than the Hindenburg if no Treq is brought in

Which is why Marotta had stated that they need to act quickly to fill in the rest of the squad

If we do end up with Götze and Alex Sandro I would say the level of our team is actually slightly higher, but I'd be worried about the loss of key experience and grinta that those outgoing players had.

obviously, since the mercato is still going on. saying we got weaker without seeing the end result of this mercato, especially when we are still in negotiations for a few players is very stupid. when the mercato is over, i might agree or might not with you about the overall strength of our squad compared to last season
