Whether or not they (quag, pepe etc) get a significant wage increase will depend on their performance and marotta's negotiations. Its easier to negotiate a slight increase of wage than a decrease of even slighter wage. We can hope they don't get significantly more than what their making.
But then arises the question: why sign somebody who doesn't perform?
Basically, if the likes of Quag and Pepe do perform and we want to sign them, then obviously they will demand a raise in wages. If they don't perform, then we might send them back, having to start all over again.
So on the surface this looks like good business, but in only one season we will have to tie these players down with larger salaries. People need to take that into account.
This is why I'd rather sign younger starlets for longer-term, cheaper contracts, building a base that way.
The initial problem was the change of formation from Ranieri's 4-4-2 which was quite successful and needed few polishing to Ferara's 4-3-2-1/ diamond 4-4-2. We didn't have the players. If you want to buy few quality players as apposed to many abv average, we needed to maintain similar formation and style of play.
Well, then again, if we had the players for the straight 4-4-2, then why did we sign four wingers this offseason?
The answer is we didn't have the right players to play the straight 4-4-2 either.
It's not so much the system that was the problem last year, but rather the lack of quality, poor managing and an overall poor mentality on the pitch.
Apparently Marotta's fired all the South American scouts for not finding anyone.
Sounds like a good move, as long as he replaces them with better scouts.
But the question arises: will he actually sign any of the proposed starlets that the new scouts find?
