Frings, Gilberto Silva ? Really are these players superior to the much maligned Emerson? Imo of course not. Personally at Arsenal I am more impressed with the athleticism of Dialby. But rumours are always interesting to an extent
Yes, both Frings and Gilberto Silva are much superior to Emerson. Frings is a real destroyer and always motivated and Gilberto is one of the best ball winners these days.

tribalfootball are the National Enquirer of soccer websites

dont believe a thing you read !!!
And who told you that? Any rumour maybe true or maybe not, but the existence of such a rumour has been strong that it's urged me to follow it.

By the way, us signing Gilberto hasn't been fabricated by Tribalfootball, I read it on different sites.

Certainly not!

I don't know why but I feel that somehow our management is skipping targets in order to get an easy 'catch'. We were aiming for a midfield rebuilt,
Now we are commenting over Gilberto Silva, which was qualified as a top-class player already on this thread. but do not fool yourselves he is not top class, nor a world one.
sad but true,
while G.Silva has more future than EMO, i m still not convinced that he will ever reach Emo's prime, if we want a top class team in the future we should buy more talented players than that, players that can form the backbone of the future Juventus and turned into elite warriors, we should gather them one by one, if we cant afford to buy more at once,
IF we want results and a top team now, then we should buy top players in their prime NOW.
Downgrading from Trezequet to Huntelaar, from Zambro to Chiellini, from Emo to Zanetti, from Canna to Dainelli, from Vieira to Silva
is not the way to build a new maximum performer Juve...

I am wondering, what special things do people here see in Emerson and Vieira to rate them amongst the best Europe's centre midfielders? Enlighten me, please.

Find a place (and shine) in world class teams that won world cups, championships and decent performances in CL+UEFA cup, competitions are a few things among other
(press praising, high price tag, UEFA prizes and worldwide recognition have reduced value in my books but still count for smth)

It doesnt mean though that the past actions are enough to help them keep the world class status forever, maybe today they are "finished" but they are good enough to be used as ex referring to their prime days...

For Vieira, Yes. He was one of the best centre midfielder in the period between 2000 and 2005. Even thought, I don't like his playing style for lots of reasons.

But for Emerson, of course not. That player has been vastly overrated and for him to win trophies with his national team, with Roma and Juventus, this doesn't mean that he was a good centre midfielder one day. The circumstances and the old-fashioned coach aka Capello have served him and his career very well. But, what is happening nowadays in Madrid is the truth, the guy shouldn't have practised such a sport from the start.

I suppose it was a case that we won the 2 Scudetti despite Emerson.

Meanwhile two more wins on the trot and I think we can start to spend some of that £71m that is to be made available to rebuild the squad.

Saviola has been mentioned today in the Italian media, Whilst I take all media reports, whatever the source, with a pinch of salt, I think that we will pick him up
for a free .

That would be a sad day to me.

Yo Saviola for a knockdown price would be immense. Here is a player that can make a difference as a substitute creatively (compared to pace/power-wise like Boji). He would make an awesome tactical addition.
Huntelaar too would be great. He is scoring goals for fun and will be a fixture with Holland for years to come. Check out his youtube goals, strength, pace and great one-on-one. He is Serie A material for sure. Would be top scorer within a year or two..
P.S. Gerrard refused to comment on his future today when asked about Juve's interest.. Prefer him to Gilberto (even though he would be sweet for 2mm) is too close to Zanetti who I respect and want to keep his place (take Giannichedda's 8 for Stevie G tho')

If Gerrard wanted just $$ he would have gone to Chelski and Benitez seems intent on just bringing in more Spaniards with the new invesstor's cash.
Question is will he demand a new challenge, a player that looks that hard once tends to leave eventually (like Vieira).
Juve's and Serie A's profile would rise considerably (read TV rights) with a player like Gerrard too soo the financials might not be so crazy, esp as you are talking about the one player who could take over Nedved's mantle..
2-0 down I would take Gerrard over Gilberto any day of the week..
