I'm okay with what Allegri said pointing out the influence of the referees on both legs. But the language used by Buffon, Agnelli and Chiellini is totally different and cannot be said by members of an elite club. But again, if I was in their place, I'd probably say the same given the heartbreak. They need to partially apologize for the language only IMO.
Care to explain what exactly in their "language" was so unprofessional?

A good ref judges equal situations in an equal fashion. If this had happened at the other end, we would not have had a penalty. We all know this. We can sit here and say this is a hypothetical scenario, that we cannot know for sure, that he might have given it.. But it's not true. We know he would not have.

We also know that Ronaldo didn't get a yellow card for diving. Fucker did nothing but dive all night long. But it didn't matter. Even in situations where Oliver correctly called the dive, he refused to give a yellow. Meanwhile Dybala was sent off in the first leg for a dive and a very light foul.

We can't pretend these refs are doing an honest job anymore. It's ridiculous.
Would have some, if not much weight, would it have been the same ref home and away, but different refs judge scenes differently. Hell, even one and the same ref might handle one and the same scene differently if given a second chance.

For the Benatia Pen - it was a pen and the right decision imo. The red was harsh, but has been given before if you run at the ref like that, and god knows what he said.

It's not of the refs concern to even out mistakes that happened in the first leg. Ignoring a penalty call, just because the ref ignored on in the first leg is not the way to go. It should not influence him, and it didn't.

Del Piero: ‘Buffon was wrong’
By Football Italia staff

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero doesn’t agree with Gianluigi Buffon’s criticism of Michael Oliver - “I found it hard to understand, honestly”.

The English referee awarded Real Madrid a last-gasp penalty in the Champions League quarter-final last night, knocking the Bianconeri out and possibly condemning Buffon to end his career without lifting that trophy.

After the match the goalkeeper was scathing in his assessment, calling Oliver “an animal” and claiming he has “a trash can in place of a heart”.

“When Gigi spoke about the referee… I found it hard to understand, honestly,” a visibly uncomfortable Del Piero said on Sky.

“I don’t understand why we should refer to the first leg, that’s how football is and you analyse the moment, whether it’s nice or ugly.

“I think in a few days he’ll say different things about the referee than what he said.”

Del Piero and Buffon were teammates with Juventus and Italy for many years, winning the World Cup with the Azzurri in 2006.

Buffon calling a referee "An animal" and "A garbage bin"? Chiellini suggesting a conspiracy the way other Serie A minnows do for years?
yeah, that's language elite club players use all the time, Bayern reacted the same way last season when refs and Real knocked them out and I'm glad they did.

Maybe that's the problem. We are too formal and presentable for this competition, we get ran over and take it on the chin time and again.

If this happened the other way around it would be like the football world suddenly stopped spinning on its axis, you'd never hear the end of it. Ronaldo would still be flapping his arms about as I type.
Exactly why me and @JCK were so annoyed about the constant praise and respect our club/players kept showing Real before the ties even started. Makes it look like you are already cushioning yourself with excuses.

We need to do exactly what we did last night with every CL match. Go in without any fear. If anything, this should be a confidence builder emotionally. Our skin should be a lot thicker after last night.

can all the people saying that it was a penalty explain exactly why it was a penalty? because it's a fact Benatia got the ball, we've all seen it. even if you call Benatia hands touching Vazquez shoulders a push (and I don't), it happened at the same time Medhi kicked the ball.

He pushed Lucas before charging him and getting anything on the ball is not showing in all video clips, only on still images.

It wouldn't be given if it was Juve's though. That's the issue.

buffon used some harsh words, but chiellini was spot on and there's nothing wrong with what he said. let's not turn a blind eye on this, real and barcelona were favored countless times for years against different teams in the cl.

Look. Decisions go Real's way all the time. I don't want the ref to even it out. I want him to be fair. If Gigi says Juve are penalized, it makes sense for him to consider both legs. No idea why Ale doesn't see it like that. Looks like he wants to be the new Platini really.

This is key. So much daft reasoning surrounding previous calls etc.

The penalty call wasn't wrong and the red card was blatantly obvious. You can't handle nor scream that way towards the ref.

ok, well this is where we disagree then, I saw no push and I saw the contact with Vazquez happening at the same moment as contact with ball which means Medhi played the ball

I have nothing against this. Definitely. It's right to voice your disgust but the language used by Buffon and Chiellini were atrocious. Having read Agnelli's comment again, I think it was okay. Allegri's reaction was the best.

Except you can. And players do it all the time.

the refereeing deserved a lot worse language than what Buffon dished out last night
