RESPECT and LOVE for Buffon...but the consensus of this just baffles me, just makes me feel Juve won't get a Big Name by the end of this summer. Hope I'm wrong.

Not even a new 'top player' could carry that burden. Or even Pirlo & Marchisio tbh.

Why? because this number was carried by a player not only skilled, but who was an example on and off the pitch and a legendary captain for us. Being skillfull is not enough to carry this number right now.

I'll be completely honest, even if Messi signed with us I wouldn't want him to have our number 10 this year. Buffon is the only one who truely deserves it and has proven that he can be a leader. Del Piero being our greatest player, on and off the pitch, I think Buffon would be the only one on this current squad to match what ale has done. Gigi Buffon #10
