Buffon apologises for swearing
Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon has apologised for swearing, which is to be clamped down according to new legislation drafted by the FIGC.
The 32-year-old was caught on camera in a foul-mouthed tirade after Genoa took the lead yesterday at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.
Juventus ended up winning 3-2, securing their first victory since January 6.
“Trial by TV for this kind of offence is due to come into operation later. The new rules are right as a question of civility and out of respect towards those who believe,” Buffon said.
“But often sport creates pressure situations that make you lose your cool, so a few uneducated words can slip out… it seems to be a difficult rule to apply.
“In that moment I was very upset for my team-mates and the fans, so I vented my feelings a little.
“Therefore I would like to once again thank Amauri and Del Piero, but also the fans who supported us again in a difficult moment.
“Now it seems that the wind has changed. But we are stronger with their support,” he concluded.
