For those people who were saying "he's good but he's not that good anymore, we should sell him to raise money for other players", yeah now you see. We're on a 4 win streak and Gigi is playing his gloves off. That's what it's like for players with the kind of ambition that drives him, he won't be at his best unless the team is really fighting for something. He is not made for mediocrity.

I remember damn well how some people thought last year about getting rid of Buffon cause Manninger can do the same job.
Precisely.

Nope, what Martin said - an unambitious team and lack of motivation.
So if he is 46 years old on a star studded Juventus team down the road...his age won't matter as long as the team is ambitious?

Age catches up sooner or later.

I once said we should accept if a crazy offer comes in, like the Ronaldo and kaka transfer fees. Not because of doubting his abilities or something, but every player is sell able as long as the right offer comes. But thinking about it again, Buffon is a great leader, the money should be soooo huge to accept the deal :D

No one is irreplaceable Martin!

Last season when we had the bad form, I said that the extra that makes him special is not there anymore and it was true then, but I did not ask for him to be sold. So far this season, in the five games we have played I have seen the Superman again and he is probably even better than he was, he's being heroic! Look at my avatar.

Despite some sparkling performances thus far from the vast array of outfield talent that coach Ciro Ferrara has at his disposal, it is the ever reliable figure between the sticks that is proving he is surely the most important part of the Bianconeri’s title winning puzzle.

After his mid-week performance against French champions Bordeaux, his next challenge was to shut out newly-promoted Livorno in this latest Serie A clash. Albeit there were long periods of dominance on Juve’s part, the away side tested the Azzuri’s number on more than one occasion. Had it not been for his heroics in denying the likes of Francesco Tavano and Cristiano Lucarelli, the game may have had a very different ending. The shot-stopper has now only conceded a solo strike from Roma’s Daniele de Rossi after four games of the season, and his fine form has also been replicated on the international stage in the qualification campaign.

A well-placed header from Vincenzo Iaquinta, and a delightful chip from Claudio Marchisio were enough to grab all three points, maintaining Juve’s 100% record in the league this season. However, surely with such a towering presence in goal, the ability to shut out opponents week in week out will prove to be just as important as firing in the goals to Scudetto glory. His undoubted talent is of course something that Juventus fans have had the luxury of experiencing over many years now, but with the league a realistic target for the first time in a long time, he will be more important than ever. The question I pose to you is this, had it not been for 'the Old Lady's' most reliable performer, would we be flying so high?

As is the usual case with a side containing so many stars, many of the plaudits will be directed toward the goal scorers and the creative players within the side. However, to buck the trend as it were, I feel it is only appropriate that Gigi is given the fitting praise he so rightfully deserves after this latest performance. If the defensive unit can continue to keep it tight at the back, and with a side brimming with potential goal-scorers and match winners, it can only lead to big things for the Turin giants this season.

All in all, another fine display sees the Bianconeri climb back to the summit of the table, albeit perhaps for only 24 hours. One thing is for sure, we can rest easy, in the knowledge that we are safe in the hands of Mr. Gianluigi Buffon.

I just read this on espn's page

If this guy had written this here at Juventuz I would have gave him a +rep

Buffon: «Against Bayern it will be a match for fearless hearts»

«It was an occasion to take immediately, but on the other hand the beautiful thing about football is this: teams that will be fighting against relegation at the end of the season, in the starting matches can create difficulties and therefore we must take this draw…At the moment it is ok to be second behind Sampdoria, but it is clear that we could have had a greater point margin from inter and this would have been the most important thing». Gigi Buffon, while speaking on Juventus Channel, does not attempt to hide: the draw against Bologna hurts, especially since it came in the last minutes when the three points seemed assured: «Conceding a goal at the end always makes one angry, even if you are winning 5-0. It is a pity because with a bit more attention, certain goals at the end of the match can be avoided. If we leave certain points behind, the disappointment is even greater. In any case, it should serve us as a lesson and change into a healthy partial setback».

The 1-1 on Sunday stopped Juventus from winning sole leadership, a role which is occupied by Sampdoria: «Like every year, the championship at the beginning of the championship can bring surprises, with the team that nobody would have imagined managing to occupy certain positions. I think, however, that at the end it will be like in the past: with the passage of time certain values will become more evident».

Attention moves to the next match, the Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich: «It is a match for fearless hearts, for players who must not have any fear or uncertainties. These are the matches for which it is worth it being a footballer, because you are playing against very strong teams in extraordinary contexts. On paper, at the beginning of the Champions League, Bayern were our number one rival in the group. Even seeing the results of the first match day, I think it will be with them and with Bordeaux that we will fight to the very end for the first place in the group».

The last thought is dedicated to Pavel Nedved, who today visited his former team mates in Vinovo: «We were happy to see him. He stopped playing four months ago and did not put on one ounce of weight. In fact I think he lost weight. This says a lot about the champion he was and will always be. I was lucky to be able to play with him».
