Buffon: «Juventus has a solid base»

«The base of the team is good and if we manage to improve further even we will be fighting for an important title. The signings of Cannavaro and Diego are definitely two very relevant moves and which bring a hope for the best».

The season has just come to an end but Gigi Buffon, through his official website, is already speaking of next season. The Juventus number one said he is happy to have reached the second place but a champion of his likes and a team like Juventus cannot feel satisfied and therefore he is already looking at the future which unfortunately will not see Pavel Nedved on the field: «I send him my best regards. The ceremony on Sunday was very moving and while I was going round the stadium I could not help thinking that with his departure I am the only one from the players who joined in 2001 to still be here: another sign of the passage of time».

In his evaluation of this year Gigi does not leave anybody out: : «An end of season thought should go towards Mr. Ranieri and all his staff. If we managed to obtain this goal at the end of the season it is also thanks to their work of the lest years Seeing that it is a time of farewells I would like to remember another two great players who retired from football on Sunday: Paolo Maldini and Luis Figo. With Paolo I shared many splendid moments with the national team whilst the Portuguese gave great lustre to Italian football. I would like to say “see you” to Carlo Ancelotti. Italy is losing a coach of great human quality. His gentleman-like manners has been very often given prominence over his professionalism but if he won so much in recent years it is not only because he is a great person but also because he is an excellent coach and I who had the fortune of working with him can confirm this».

Finally Gigi spoke of the next commitment, the Confederations Cup in South Africa: «We will be meeting some of the strongest teams in the world. This competition will not be as precious as the World cup or the European cup but we want to do well and try to win».

i came across this when i was looking for info about his numero 1 biography, its probably things we already know and it might have been posted here earlier but just in case.

juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon Talks About His Biography "Numero 1"... he almost signed for AC Milan in 2006, lippi best coach, and more...

by Anna Italia

What amazing declarations from Italy and Juventus Saint goalkeeper Gigi Buffon! I had to include the complete video chat declarations from La Gazzetta dello Sport during the visit of Buffon promoting his biograpy "Numero 1" to share with you.

My favorite statement from Buffon's interview is "behind the champion there is a boy with his passions and his dreams." How about for you... read the article and let me know your thoughts

MILAN, 17 November 2008 - Gigi Buffon is top-class, both on and off the pitch. He was the guest at our studios - where he showed he is a true class act - for a videochat with our readers and to present his biography Numero 1 (Number One), written in collaboration with Corriere della Sera journalist Roberto Perrone and published by Rizzoli. Almost 2000 requests arrived in just 40 minutes, one of them from Alessandro Del Piero. "I'm Ale, your team captain. What are you doing there? Get back to training..."

THE INJURY - "I tore the abductor. It was partly my fault, because I had issues with that muscle but I wanted to speed things up and get back in the game for the match against Palermo; I was also concerned with the fact that the team was going through a rough patch. This made things worse and I tore the abductor, but it's getting better little by little. I should be back in January."

MARKET - "I'm very attached to Juventus; when I agreed to stay after the relegation I felt I was part of a project. The new leadership speaks often with the players, especially with the old horses like me. This is very different from before. I could never play for another Italian team, aside from Genoa. I'm a big fan of that team." Gigi was honest when he admitted that after the World Cup in Germany he was very close to going to Milan. "I can confirm it now. But then I decided that at the time it wouldn't have been the case. I wouldn't have been at peace with my conscience and in my case, in order to perform in top form, I need to have peace of mind. It would have been different if Juve had stayed in Serie A, also because certain things weren't going well for me at the time." Apparently, he seems opposed to a move abroad. "For now, it's not in the plans. Of course, if they were to offer 50 million for me to the club, I would be the first one to tell the club executives to transfer me. I love Juve and that amount of money could make the team stronger."

COACHES - "In my opinion, Lippi is the best one, not only because of the good rapport we have, but also because Lippi is a great boss for the National side and for Juve. But I have felt good with all the managers I've had. What do I think about Capello? His achievements speak for themselves and it's not true we couldn't stand him, even if in a couple of instances, after my back injury, I wasn't pleased. I think it would be hypocritical to say that we are all equal in football."

HEIRS- "It's not true that we don't have good young goalkeepers in Italy. We just need to have more faith in them. Amelia, Curci and Mirante are good, but my favourite is Marchetti (Cagliari), a lad who has a great career ahead of him."

JUVE'S SEASON - "I think we have more chances in the Champions League. We have stability, experience and we are a united team; these attributes combined with the quality of our squad, can make a difference in certain matches. It was obvious in the match at Bernabeu. Can we win the Serie A title? Inter and Milan have more quality and the Rossoneri don't have to play the Champions League, which in the spring, it could cost some points. As a team, we don't prepare well for the matches and that makes it harder for us than for Inter or Milan. It's more difficult for us to come ahead in those matches with a high-quality game."

HIS CAREER AND HIS DEBUT - "I am thankful for my destiny and I thank the Lord for having made me play at this level without losing my identity. When Scala told me I would come onto the pitch in the Parma-Milan match, I was in seventh heaven. I wasn't afraid at all. In fact, during the ride from the hotel to Tardini, I dozed off. Crippa and Melli, my team-mates, were saying I was a fool but that perhaps they could be calm. I never won a Champions Cup, so I would like to win one. I am happy with what I have achieved in my career but that doesn't mean that I am completely satisfied."

THE OPPONENTS - "In my opinion, Ronaldo (Inter) is only second to Pelè and Maradona. But injuries have had a big impact in his career."

SCHOOL - "It was going well until I was 15, but then football became critical and I couldn't keep up. I made the mistake of buying a diploma instead of making more of an effort. I was punished for this, rightfully so. I have made some mistakes in life, but I have always paid for them."

FAMILY- "Having a son is a wonderful experience, even if some nights are not that great. Sometimes, when Louis Thomas is upset, I throw him up in the air and then catch him as if he were a ball. He really enjoys it. Alena doesn't enjoy it too much. I tell her not to worry, that I know what I'm doing, but she replies that if that were the case, no one would ever score a goal in my net. Jokes aside, I have more experience as a footballer than as a husband or a father but I intend to take very good care of my loved ones."

THE BOOK - "It has been a nice experience to write a book because behind the champion there is a boy with his passions and his dreams and who was a big fan of N'Kono and Cameroon. It takes a life full of sacrifices to get to this level. The readers will find out about all this."

Buffon delighted with signings

Monday 8 June, 2009

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon is delighted with the progress his side are making in the transfer market.

The Bianconeri have already signed Diego from Werder Bremen and Fabio Cannavaro from Real Madrid.

Udinese midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino is expected to be the next player to move to Turin this summer.

“I have no doubt that next year we will see beautiful things,” Buffon said from Italy's training camp at Coverciano.

“Juve have made good buys. We have taken the right players,” he added before making an assessment of his side's rivals.

Milan and Inter could well lose their two best players, Kaka and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, if speculation is to be believed.

“I don't know if the others are weakening. It will come down to those who are less short in terms of squad size,” he concluded.

Juventus finished second in Serie A this season, 10 points behind Italian champions Inter, who won their fourth straight Scudetto.
