The Juventus goalkeeper is not pessimistic about the idea of the Bianconeri fighting for the top honour in Serie A, but admitted that the Old Lady still requires at least one central defender to complete the squad.

Gianluigi Buffon has decided to stay with Juventus and he will aim to help the Bianconeri reach at least a Champions League spot, even though his dream would be to win the Scudetto.

"We're aiming for the qualification to the Champions League, but we shall annoy everyone," promised the Italian international goalkeeper who decided to be faithful to the Old Lady despite receiving many offers from Europe's top clubs.

Buffon also warned the critics not to write Juventus off for the league title, especially since the squad is almost complete.

"The summer calculations for the Scudetto are often wrong. We just need a central defender, but I have no preferences between Milito and Cannavaro."

Buffon showing why he is loved, AGAIN! Seriously, we have too have a good start to the season and play Milan and Inter the week when they have big Champions League matches so they will be tired or rest some bigger names.

Buffon speaks about the new season ahead. "We have had one season of purgatory, im happy to see that everybody fears our return to Serie A, and that we still have respect. One season is Serie B has not cancelled the great history of this club. The favorite for the Scudetto? Inter has it all to repeat itself, but we will make it very hard for them!''

Buffon: Juve Year Zero

Gianluigi Buffon believes the season in Serie B was a necessary “purgatory” to pick up where they left off – as winners.

“This is Juventus Year Zero. We are starting again after a year of, let us say a purifying form of purgatory,” he told Sky Italia.

“I am happy to hear that our opponents have great respect for a Juve that has returned to Serie A. It means you cannot cancel history with a season in Serie B.”

The Bianconeri had won two consecutive titles before they were demoted in the Calciopoli scandal and stripped of those trophies.

Now they are back in the top flight and Buffon is gunning for the reigning champions Inter – a side he was reportedly close to joining this summer.

“They are the strongest and most complete squad who have everything needed to repeat their success a second time. No, wait, third!”

The goalkeeper joked that the 2005-06 Scudetto was handed to Inter, who had finished third, after Calciopoli affected both Juventus and Milan.

“We will make life very difficult for Inter, that I can say for sure.”

Buffon was asked to comment on the news that Francesco Totti has retired from international duty at the age of almost 31.

“I have known Francesco since we were in the same Under-14 squad, so we will have a chance to talk.

“I cannot say anything about his previous choices or this one. He proved with this decision that he was consistent with what he said a year ago. As for what is right and what is wrong, that I shall never be drawn on.”

Buffon Promises Competitive Juve Side

The Italian international goalkeeper is certain that the Bianconeri will give Inter a hard time for the Scudetto. ;)

Gianluigi Buffon is looking forward to the new season as he is full of enthusiasm to see Juventus back in action competing with the big guns and maybe even challenging for the league title following the promotion back to the Italian topflight.

"We re-start following this year of purgatory. I'm happy about the fact that most people say that there is fear with regards to our return, or better still there is a lot of respect.

"It means that a year in Serie B did not cancel out the history of this club."

For Buffon, the Bianconeri will be up there in the race for the Scudetto even though Inter remain the favourites.

"Inter has everything to repeat itself, but we shall give them a hard time," promised the Bianconeri's keeper who just signed a contract extension a few months back.
