Cobolli Gigli: "Futuro di Buffon alla Juve"
02 03 2007

Juve keep hold of Buffon Friday 2 March, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus have warned Milan that they won’t sign Gigi Buffon at the end of this season. “Dreams don’t always come true,” noted President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli.

The goalkeeper’s future in Turin has been in doubt ever since the club were demoted as part of the Calciopoli probe last summer.

Buffon decided to remain even in Serie B, but he’s since refused to commit himself to the Old Lady of Italian football once this campaign has come to an end with a probable promotion.

This week Milan again suggested that they were willing to sign the shot-stopper should Nelson Dida quit the club, but Cobolli Gigli has told them to look elsewhere for a new No 1.

“Dreams can come true, but that doesn’t always happen,” the Bianconeri official said on Friday afternoon.

“In this case, for example, the reality is that Buffon has a contract with us at Juventus,” he continued.

“Our agreement expires in 2010 and therefore there are obligations which need to be met from both the player and the club.

“But apart from this, we would like Buffon to continue feeling happy in our squad.”

Cobolli Gigli, interviewed at Milan prior to a Lega Calcio meeting, also calmed the storm provoked by some statements attributed to Juve winger Mauro Camoranesi yesterday.

“Those declarations were from last November and then initially published in December,” underlined the Juventus chief.

“[Sporting director] Alessio Secco already discussed the issue with the player when the statements were fresh.

“It’s old news and Camoranesi is now really working hard in our shirt and in the Azzurri jersey.”

Nice talk? I think this could be just the type of talk that will push the player away.

"There are obligations that need to be met by both player and club" = "We would even attempt to force him to honor the contract" (It's not as if they don't have a history of doing so anyway)

I think all he is doing is trying to show the clubs commitment to himand how important a player he is to us.

That said it is going to come down to the quality of our signings whether he stays or not.

Who doesn't know how important a player he is to us?

Gigi knows it, Juve knows it, You and I know it, the world knows it.

If it was me, I wouldn't enjoy reading a reminder from my boss through a newspaper "There are contractual obligations" ..

I was mentioning the whole idea, that we won't sell Buffon! Although I was shocked to read the mentioned part in your post!
It means, like even you (buffon) wanna go, we\ll force you to stay due to your contract!!! :disagree:

I agree with you Jem on that point :agree:

come on guys ! don't take it in a dramatic way. Our dear president is trying to hint at something like : "hey, milan buffon will stay with us". In addition, he does it in a sarcastic way " yes it's a dream".

This is one of the reasons I keep stressing spending the money to buy a few QUALITY players as opposed to filling our team with players offered for a good deal. There is in fact a reason these players are being offered cheaply. We need a few cheap, smart buys, but getting a few QUALITY players is by far more important. Quality over quantity. If we do this, Trezeguet might stay.

No, I didn´t mean you too. :p I˙have to say I see a little bias against Milan players in this case from you ;) cause no Milan players can compare and are not worth as Kaka.

Gigi is the best, a leader and God knows what else, but you are putting too much ephasys on a goalkeeper. Let´s not forget that Milan who had Dida, Barcelona who has Victor Valdes, etc. have won trophies in the past with lesser keepers.

Just imagine what would Kaka mean to this team....
I don't mind Kaka coming to Juve, but not at the expense of players vital to keeping the team competitive.

 You tell 'em Giovanni! :weee: Gigi stays, Gigi STAYS! :weee: (I'm beginning to wonder if someone at Juve is reading our forums.) :smoke:

I believe any club should let go off any player no matter how big a star he is if he doesn't feel happy in his club.

AC Milan have done it like this with big success. And Juventus should do the same.

I think Buffon will stay with us next season. And I have faith that we will purchase a couple of good signings in the summer.

Trezeguet on the other hand might leave. But that would be OK to make way for the future which is Palladino and Bojinov.

I also feel Camoranesi will stay. We'll see how it goes with Camo in the summer.

Time will buy us all answers.
