Juve to allow Buffon exit?
Thursday 4 January, 2007
Juventus would not stand in Gianluigi Buffon’s way if he wanted to leave the club, stated the player’s agent Silvano Martina.
The World Cup winning goalkeeper is contracted to the Bianconeri until 2011, but has reiterated that he cannot promise he will stay in Turin next season and needs to know the club’s plans in order to decide his future.
“The relationship between us and Juventus is so friendly that I am sure that if Gigi were to decide that he wants to move to another club, the management would consider this possibility serenely,” said Martina.
“In any case, I don’t see any movements in the near future. What I can say is that we have scheduled a date to meet and discuss with the club’s management.
“We need to evaluate Juve’s future, as well as Gigi’s. He is only asking for a top-level team – the current one is strong but only in Serie B.
“To return to be as competitive as in the past, Juve need to sign another five or six quality players,” concluded Martina.
Bianconeri chief Giovanni Cobolli Gigli stated on Wednesday that the club was willing to do all it could to repay Buffon and the other players who decided to remain in Turin after the summer Calciopoli scandal.
