Juventus tighten Buffon grip Friday 4 May, 2007

Juventus have today reiterated to Milan that they have no intention of selling Gigi Buffon over the summer.
The Italian giants have claimed for some time now that the goalkeeper will remain despite his apparent hunger for European football.
And President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli underlined their stance on Friday after claiming that the Rossoneri had made a fresh approach earlier in the day.
“[Milan Vice-President] Adriano Galliani asked me if it is really true that I did not want to sell Buffon,” said Cobolli Gigli after a Lega Calcio meeting in Milan.
“I replied that I wouldn’t let him go for any reason in the world!”
Galliani responded to Cobolli Gigli’s revelation by insisting that nobody would be replacing Nelson Dida in between the sticks at the San Siro next term.
“We have always followed Buffon, but I can confirm that Dida will still be our No 1,” he smiled.
“I was just having a little joke with Cobolli Gigli about Buffon in this instance. We club officials joke a lot in private…”
After underlining that Buffon was going nowhere, the Old Lady ruler also did the same when asked about the future of Didier Deschamps.
“Buffon is not leaving and that is also true of Deschamps,” noted the Juventus chief who was appointed as President following the Calciopoli scandal.
“I want the Coach to stay and I find it ridiculous that someone thinks that we are not on good terms, especially as I was the one to bring him here.
“These rumours are only aimed at destabilising a perfect environment, which is the reason for our great results.”
Despite Juventus’ lead at the top of Serie B, the club are being linked with a summer move for former tactician Marcello Lippi and Claudio Ranieri of Parma.
