Eto'o was great but even in his prime, I wouldn't put him there. He's missing that x-factor imo. It would be like putting Henry in that list and Henry was better.

It serves purpose to give recognition to players at the late part of their career that still give a tremendous contribution to the sport and the list has pretty good examples.

Just think of Del Piero turning back the years when we got back into serie a. This is how he got recognition.
Out of a long list, Buffon, a goalkeeper ffs, got to win the award to show great respect.

It serves more purpose then the entire EPL

All these guys that didn't win it will get nominated again next year, and again and again until they win it. Most of the nominated ones will be the award winners in the next ~10 years so it really isnt nothing special. Besides, how many people have ever heard about this? If Gigi didnt win i probably wouldnt hear about it for a while, atleast until some other Juve player won it

What purpose does the Ballon D'Or serve? None.
choosing the best player of the year serves some purpose. choosing someone for this award, which i dont even know on what criteria its being handed out for, is a waste of everyones time and nothing to be excited about. i didnt even know Del Piero and Nedved won the award before i googled it today, which shows how significant and important it is

So Oscars should only nominate the movie of the year and all the other nominations are useless? Buffon receiving the prize was the first news on our national tv sports news and most Juve fans should remember Del Piero getting it in 2009. If it wasnt important Buffon wouldnt attend and everyone wouldnt write about it
