Ok so we have swapped some songs but if you were to generalize what kind of music you listen to, classify it in genres, I wonder how many different genres you could mention.

At some point in my life I have been into these as far as I can remember (probably is more thou)...

+ "Pop"
+ "Rock"
+ Classical
Folk music (I must stress under very special circumstances ;))
Dance (early 90s dance [Dutch], not what they call dance nowadays)
Instrumental
+ Rap
- Hip-hop
New Age
+ Movie score (generally rock and classical themes)
French rap
Latino

(+) going strong
(-) not applicable anymore
( ) not a huge fan, still like it

hip-hop is the genre.

rapping is just the poetry....i guess.

Well rap is more free IMO, in the kind of music you can call that. I mean few people would call Will Smith hip-hop, but it's still rap.

Rap and Hip-Hop overlap in many songs, but they are two differenet types.

It's hard to explain, though i'll give you example of each. notice the difference in the songs:

    Hip-Hop:
Ashanti, Angie Martinez, LL Cool J, TLC, Outkast, Laurin Hill.

    Rap:
Eminem, Busta Ryhmes, DMX, 2 Pac, Luniz, Nelly, and Snoop.

The more i think about it, the more i find songs that can be considered both. (Missy Elliot, Coolio)

Then again, There isn't much difference between many Hip-hop songs and R&B songs nowadays!!!

so i guess you could say that, nowadays, Hiphop is a cross between R&B and Rap.

yeah. he's not really a hip-hop artist in the sense that exists nowadays

not associated with Jay Z, Nas, etc, but his music nevertheless is hip-hop.

Alex, why did i sense that you would bring will-smith into it ;)

Rap from what I know is complex and very poetic and artistic...but anything with words puts the actual music in the background and the words in the front.

as a result, the music doesnt really develop...

Majed, of course they are endless but the point is to post the genres that you listen to, not to establish that yes a lot of them exist :groan:

    cliched, how do you mean?

anyhow good to see a fellow trance lover  can't get enough of the stuff!

rnb and rap are often classified as 'black'- and even white people who are into it are wiggers....to use that rather distasteful word....
