Is it really that good? A friend of mine is constantly telling me to watch it, but I've been avoiding it like the plague since it looks like Game of Thrones in a different environment.
Back in school I told my fellow students to watch GoT, they came back calling me a faggot for watching something that "soap-ish".
I recommended Rome, they called me a faggot for caring about women intrigues.
I recommended Vikings and Spartacus and they loved it

Vikings is more direct and simple. If King A says "I am going to seize Throne X" you can be goddamn sure that there will be an army marching by the end of the episode :D

I like Game of Thrones, I just don't really feel the need to watch anything else that uses the same formula. Game of Thrones kind of fills the quota regarding that type of series. That's why I asked if it's different.

There are major differences between Vikes and GoT but at the bottom line they are cousins. If you say a grapefruit fills the quota for citrus fruits you want to eat than I won't sell you oranges.

But still better than watching Colin Farrell fuck up True Detective :D
