In the end his point was lost because he was horrible and disrespectful. A mature adult doesn't need to resort to that childish tantrum which is both ignorant and self defeating. It does nothing to further actual discourse
But, and not to speak for Andy, it's a fair argument among gays to suggest that some of the institutionalized ridicule and discrimination they suffer is equally a great deal of personal pain and suffering. Pain and suffering that might only be demonstrated by someone else making such shocking statements about their own beloved institutions.

I honestly don't think enough has been said in this thread for the social persecution gays feel as a result of culturally accepted viewpoints, many of which have been expressed here. As much as I hate the speech, I do think it demonstrates a shocking point. How shocking that might be to someone on the other side of this issue might only become apparent when it is instead turned on their own cherished institutions and belief systems. So it's relevant because it makes that point clear.

It's a bit of eye-for-an-eye, and I don't like it for making the whole world blind of course, but then again that's in the Old Testament. ;)

And i understand that sentiment but do you believe his rant helped that discussion or further harmed the discourse?

Andy's posts rarely further discussion. That's true whether you're talking about gays, hip hop, or Juve's defense. He seldom offers much these days beyond the molotov cocktail lob to make a point, but I also believe that making a point serves a function or a point of reference.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. used to tell Malcolm X how much he needed X's extremist viewpoints to make his own beliefs on civil rights seem a lot more moderate. Maybe Malcolm X didn't serve as much to useful discourse as MLK did on the matter, but he still served an important function overall.

So by this logic Muslims need islamist terroists, or Christians need the David Koreshs of the world ?? I dont believe that

If you're trying to advance an agenda of social change, you often do. This happens in politics all the time, not just religions -- whose ideas of social change are much less relevant. (For example, for Catholicism, that hasn't been the case since the fall of the Berlin Wall.)

I still dont see the connection, finding common ground and respecting others people point of view ie: TOLERANCE is a mantra of the progressives, yet they are only tolerant when you agree with them, so then who is the ignorant bigot?

Ignorant bigots come in all flavors, all faiths, all people. Reminding people of that on occasion has its service.

Well then you should be the first one condemning his words but alas you didn't so therefore you fall into the same category. If one doesn't stand up for what is right it is the same as doing the wrong.
What? Just no, I wasn't even in the thread when it happened spaz. Andys a twat, but he can say what he wants and he was just trolling you in the extreme.

but you as a person who argues on his side when you came into the thread and saw that should have called him out and said it was extreme and disrespectful but yet you didnt. If it was a person of faith calling an atheist names you would have told him to shut it. So it seems your hypocritical my friend

The theories he posited are indeed offensive, but they are nonetheless logically valid. We've had worse and we've had worse still and it's not serious it's a troll. I have no desire nor moral obligation to take offensive to banter.
