I wonder why threads about gay people and religion get so many responses. They're both weird/gross but as long as people keep em to themselves it shouldn't really concern anyone.

It's also a bit of a chilling, almost science-fiction-like concept. Because it suggests governments could develop biological weapons that are optimized to take out populations based on their cultural mores and belief systems.

To get extra diabolical, in a case like much of Europe where they're struggling with multiculturalism, it means a government could potentially even target distinct social groups within national borders.

Things like religion,politics,sexuality etc are all topics that we, as humans, hold at least some illogical views in that are easily reasoned away but we refuse to accept it at all. That is why they are so controversial, because intelligent discussion means both parties have to be able to admit their flaws and be opn to change. People, of course, rarely listen to others and rarely change. Add of course the poles of 'arrogance' and 'victim complex' that seem to fly around this place and you've got endless, pointless discussion about topics that nobody will really admit that in their day to day lives they could give a fuck.

Personally I believe issues such as sexuality, sex, race, the socially taboo should be openly discussed. However, I realize that certain demographics of the population just aren't capable of having said discussions.*

*Not picking on anyone here, but just referring to society in general. I recently had my 86 year old neighbor explain to me why the coloreds ought to go back to black town.

A, I know exactly what you mean. Centuries of conditioning doesn't overturn so easily. Your neighbor is hardly unique. I remember living in Columbia, MD and a friend at work had an officemate who was only about 24 years old, and he was always spouting off about how the government should lock the cities, round up all the black people, and shoot everybody.

It's shocking, but ignorance is still in high demand in the world.
