Cat believed and trusted her sister, can't really be blamed for that, robb lost the war when he didnt pursue the retreating lannister forces and for trusting their eternal rivals the boltons.
Robb fucked things up much worse for sure with his broken wedding promise, but Catelyn did some very stupid things as well. Capturing Tyrion on her own for example, or freeing Jaimie.

Yep but still even if robb broke his promise, if he marched on and took casterly rock instead of breaking up his forces and going to attend his uncles funeral no one would dare challenge him.

The problem with that situation wasn't Selmy, he handled himself honorably against immense odds and was got by numbers eventually. It's the fucking unsullied who got like bitches left and right in those battles that were laughable.

I was very annoyed and let down at first but then done a bit of research.

They were overwhelmed by the large numbers and the tactic theat the sons of the harpy used. Also for all we know the Sons of the Harpy could be highly skilled mercenarys. Also the unsullied are known to be great soldiers on the battle field they are not famed for fighting close quaters. The sons of harpy were clever in attacking them in closed spaces like alley ways and in brothels.
From the book:

Dany settled on her bench and wrapped her pelt about her shoulders once again. “The Unsullied are my finest warriors.”

“Soldiers, not warriors, if it please Your Grace. They were made for the battlefield, to stand shoulder to shoulder behind their shields with their spears thrust out before them. Their training teaches them to obey, fearlessly, perfectly, without thought or hesitation … not to unravel secrets or ask questions.”
-A Song of Ice and Fire: Book 5 - A Dance With Dragons, Chapter Two (Daenerys I).

Spot on clip, my brother as a book reader makes the same points about the show completely missing the beat and purpose of the books.

I do think that you can interpret a lot of things differently as well, depending on how you want your narrative to look like. For example, for me most of Arya's storyline & character development in the show hasn't been that badass, but much more like he describes the book stuff (which I haven't read). I don't get a glorification of violence or anything from a lot of the show parts either, and refuse to believe that some of the rest of the parts isn't also in some way "badass" in the books as well.

Nice K Dot soundtrack though :D
