Mexes is slowly improving his performance and gaining his form, can be good at times, but he isn't consistent enough. At times he can be the hero in scoring goals and helping the defence, but sometimes he can be a disaster. Well u get the idea.
Mexes certainly has the potential to be a good defender. In the right environment I think he would flourish.

@axlrose w/regards to Mexes: Agreed. I reckon he would have done well at just about any other established European team but Rome isn't the place to develop your talent and mature as a football player and human being these days.

Gallas should start at centre back for the French NT as he is IMO better than both Thuram and Boumsong atm. Thuram is getting old and isn't as reliable as Gallas and Boumsong is indeed overrated.

Frey should definitely be in the squad. He and Coupet are the best French keepers at present. Is Mexes having a good season with Roma?

U'd call Gallas reliable? Guess u miss Zebina as rb this season huh? if he was that reliable don't u think he'd start at chelsea? Gallas is second class... i wouldn't say he's bad,but neither is he world class!!!!! I'd rather have Lucio or Jorge Andrade or Ricardo Carvalho who r also 28 but far much better, both in terms of pace and in terms of defensive skills ;)

About Boumsong..if u think he messes up,u should have seen Gallas at his age :D

Gallas is imo a pure quality defender, would be great to have him in the squad!
COmpletely disagree :disagree: IMO Kovac is much better than Gallas

pure quality, and he's versatile.he can practically play in all 4 positions in the defence line.
Versatility doesn't mean quality! he can't keep the same level at all positions...he's a decent center and right back, but awful at left back for an instance ;)

INFORMATION FOR HIM:

William Gallas

William Gallas, (born August 17, 1977), is a French footballer who plays for Chelsea F.C. in the English Premier League. He wears the number 13 shirt and is a defender who prefers to play in the centre, but he can also play at full-back on either side of the pitch.

He was bought by Claudio Ranieri from Marseille in May 2001 for £6.2 million. Under Ranieri Gallas developed centre back partnerships with Marcel Desailly and later with John Terry and also played at right-back sometimes. William has developed into a fantastic defender, and his partnership with John Terry at the centre of Chelsea's defence is one of the most formidable in the world, they once went an exceptional 16 games together without conceding a single goal. His main attributes are his ability to mark players and read the game, but his most prized asset are is his pace, being able to keep up with the likes of Thierry Henry. This makes William the perfect partner for the more solid and hard tackling Terry but with ability like his, he would fit into any team with ease.

Because of the recent injury to Wayne Bridge, Gallas was forced to play out of position at left back during the later part of the 2004/2005 season, something that he was growing more and more frusterated at as he prefers to play in the centre of defence rather than wide. Because of this he has been linked with clubs such as Arsenal and Barcelona but Jose Mourinho's purchase of Asier Del Horno from Athletic Bilbao for £13 million, Gallas has retaken his role along side John Terry in the centre-back position.

International

Gallas is also a regular member of the French national team, making his full France debut in a 5-0 demolition of Slovenia in a Euro 2004 qualifier in October 2002. He then played for his country in that tournament's finals.

true.mexes has loads of talent.he just landed in arguably the most poisonous environment in italy.
Of course, Roma already has 4 players sent off during 1/2 the season and De Rossi topped the table of being the player with the worst discipline again.

I love it when Totti topped the table last season :D

Mourinho picked CArvalho ahead of Gallas because he trusted him and his defensive stlye. I don't think Gallas is any less. Although Gallas is not as tactical in his defensive game as the above two but I still think it'd be great to have him.

Ofcourse! All coaches have preferences and they can become attached or dependand on a certain player to carry out his instructions. It's hard to implement new ideas/concept to an entirely new group, thus its easier if he has one or in his case, two players becoming the example on the field of how he wants his team to play.

Nonsense. Gallas is a better defender than that wannabe striker Lucio and he's as good as Andrade. Carvalho may be better but he isn't available now is he? And FYI Gallas does start for Chelsea. As a matter of fact he has only failed to make the starting lineup once so far in the Premiership this season and he has played the full 90 minutes in all of his EPL starts. Carvalho on the other hand has not started in seven Premiership games. He actually sat out the first five EPL games this season because of a combination of Gallas' excellent form and injury. As for Gallas at Boumsong's age, who really cares? We're talking about now. The present not the past and right now William Gallas is a solid defender whereas Jean-Alain Boumsong is mediocre. He's piss poor when it comes to concentration and decision making and even Mourinho who you continue to refer to said that Boumsong makes at least one serious mistake every game and I think he was being kind. Boumsong was horrible today against Liverpool and has absolutely no right starting for the French NT ahead of the likes of Gallas.

I just did a quick check and only Frank Lampard and John Terry have played more minutes for Chelsea than Gallas this season. As of late Mourinho has opted to go with a Terry-Carvalho central defensive partnership moving Gallas to right back and Carvalho has done well but that isn't the only reason that Gallas doesn't start at centre back these days. You have to consider that Mourinho would rather start Gallas at full back than the inconsistent Ferreira. It doesn't make sense having either Gallas or Carvalho on the bench when you can start both of them and for the record I have already stated that Carvalho is a better than Gallas but it doesn't make sense saying that you would prefer the Portuguese centre half because he's not for sale, Gallas might be.
