hmm tbh im remaining on the fence on this one. certainly i think hiring benitez would be a far greater risk, not in his managerial skills, but his demands for anything between 6-12 members of his own staff including a general manager who truth be told did a terrible job at Valencia. As with del neri i can agree to a certain extent with regards his mental set up with the teams he has worked with in terms of securing safety etc... but something in me also says he must have done something right to get sampdoria where they are today.
I hope u'r right.. But I really think we are in some deep shit.. And need a strong coach, big name coach, to get players to perform, to give there all in every match for this shirt!.. a coach like Capello (YES HIM) would imo be perfect.. Even if I really want a non italian dude..

What most people dont realise is, the so called lesser coaches like Del Neri have spent a lot of years approaching the game with a totally different mindset. With teams like Atlanta, Chievo and a much lesser extent Sampdoria, your first and only target in the season is to either fight off relegation or secure a respectable top 10 finish. When you dont coach a top club in so long, you dont know what it takes to be successful - be it the level of discipline, the kind of tactics required and the temperament. Being a scudetto contender requires a very different approach than being a relegation struggler. And unfortunately Del Neri has spent a lot more time staving off relegation than fighting for top honours in Italy. Let alone Europe. This is the time to bring in somebody who can implement new ideas and bring out the best of what is currently available and what may be available to us. A decision in haste, only because we cant find anybody, is not doing us any favours. It's short sighted and very disappointing. This appointment is perhaps even worse than Zaccheroni's because it would come with a two year contract and if the papers are to be believed, 80m euros of investment in the mercato. I'd much rather the reins be given to somebody else, even if it means waiting a little longer. The last thing we need is a knee jerk reaction to one alarmingly bad season. Let's not be penny wise, pound foolish. Luciano, please come and save our asses.
Great analysis of the loser's mentality about to being injected to juve's DNA.. :sergio:

I remeber that back then pre calciopolli we were considering Guidolin as one of the options for a new manager
can`t remember what year was it but I definitely remember that one of the board wanted him here
He and Spalleti were 2 of the guys that were linked with us

He did well for Chelsea after what people thought of him when first appointed. Could have won the CL if Terry didn't slip on his tears, also didn't help to have Ronaldo scoring 40+ goals in that season. And he got this Portsmouth team into the FA Cup final somehow.

Pretty good.

It was Mourinho's work all along with his Chelsea spell, he did nothing elsewhere why the hell would Abramovich sack him when he's the one who started the fight with Jose over him appointing avram as a sporting director or something. As for Pompey, he got them to the Cup final alright and out of the PL for that matter too with them hitting rock bottom.

He's an average coach who's slightly better than those coaches we've been linked with in the past week, and as I've said that doesn't say that much either.
