Yeah I've mainly seen their TV shows before their resounding film success. The only movie I've seen of them is in fact the first - "Tre uomini e una gamba" - which was funny.

Well by that stretch any film with Totò isn't funny either since it depicts essentially miserable situations. And the same would be true for "la vita è bella", "c'est arrivé près de chez vous", "Trainspotting", "Clockwork Orange" or even "American psycho". I'll always prefer films with a cynical sense of humour over the empty, "dude where's my caresque" variety. The best way for a movie to make me laugh is to take me by surprise, to be more than just a flat comedy. Hence I found "La haine" highly funny. It's tragic yet full of humanity and actually analyses a very precise situation and conveys a message, while being stuffed with humorous sequences all the same. And furthermore it's my pocket dictionnary of Parisian slang.
